How these numbers are made

Source: Gaston County GIS, BuildingPermits_2026 (Residential Building Permits, ArcGIS Online), read 21 Oct 2026. We count permits issued January 2025 through December 2025; denied and withdrawn permits are left out.

New-home building permits Gaston County issues across the county: new single-family houses, modular homes and new multi-family buildings in Gastonia (whose permitting the county took over in 2022), Belmont, Cramerton, Bessemer City, Stanley, Lowell, Mount Holly, Cherryville, Dallas and the unincorporated county. Re-roofs, remodels, additions, trade permits and commercial permits are not in this file.

  • The county publishes only one calendar year of new-home permits (2025), so there is no year-on-year comparison and no other kind of work.
  • The file names the general contractor on most permits. We show how many permits the most active builders filed, which is volume, not quality; we have not matched them to North Carolina license records.
  • A permit counts as finished when the county marks it complete; the file has no final inspection date, so we show no time to final.
  • The value is the project value the builder declared on the permit.
  • Town names and ZIP codes are mailing addresses, so a permit with a Gastonia mailing address may lie outside Gastonia itself.

Counts are permits, not jobs: one job can need several permits. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can. Sources and definitions →
