How these numbers are made

Source: Open Data BR, EBR Building Permits (7fq7-8j7r), read 19 Oct 2026. We count permits issued October 2024 through September 2026; denied and withdrawn permits are left out. The city-parish's public file has no permit status and no final inspection or completion date, so no finished share is shown.

Construction permits the consolidated City of Baton Rouge / Parish of East Baton Rouge issues: the City of Baton Rouge and the parish's unincorporated areas. Occupancy permits, short-term rental registrations, complaints and land clearing permits in the same file are not counted.

  • The file has no permit status and no final inspection or completion date, so we show neither a finished share nor time to final.
  • The value is the project value written on the permit, not the final cost of the job. Demolition permits carry no value.
  • The file names a contractor on about three in four of the permits counted here: nine in ten new home, roofing and pool permits, about half of plumbing, gas, fence and demolition permits.
  • A new house gets separate building, electrical, plumbing, gas and mechanical permits, so one project can count several times, once under each kind of work.

Counts are permits, not jobs: one job can need several permits. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can. Sources and definitions →
