How these numbers are made

Source: City of Brownsville GIS, Accela Permits Report 03312026 (ArcGIS Online), read 23 Oct 2026. We count permits issued April 2024 through March 2026; denied and withdrawn permits are left out. The city's report lists issued permits only, with no status and no final date, so no finished share is shown.

Building permits the City of Brownsville issues inside city limits, as listed in a report from its Accela permit system: new houses and duplexes, re-roofs, repairs, alterations, additions, pools, solar, accessory structures, demolition, house moving, commercial and multi-family construction and signs. The report holds no separate electrical, plumbing or mechanical permits. Unincorporated Cameron County and other cities (Olmito, Los Fresnos, San Benito) are permitted by other offices.

  • The city's report names no contractor, so there are no contractor lists, rankings or firm pages for Brownsville.
  • The report is a one-off export dated March 31, 2026, so these pages end with March 2026.
  • It lists issued permits only, with no status, no final inspection date and no job value, so there is no finished share, no time to final and no costs.
  • Electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits are not in the report; the few repair permits that describe that kind of work are counted under those trades.
  • Homes are the report's residential permits; multi-family buildings count as other. The ZIP code is read from the end of each permit's address.
  • A permit number the report lists twice (usually a reissue) is counted once, at its first issue date.

Counts are permits, not jobs: one job can need several permits. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can. Sources and definitions →
