When each kind of work is filed

Permits by calendar month, 100 = an average month (the thin line), July 2024 through June 2026. Kinds of work do not all peak together. Each month is counted twice (once a year), so one unusual month still moves these numbers.

How El Paso compares with other cities

From our cross-city data studies: the same measure, read the same way, for every city we cover.

How these numbers are made

Source: City of El Paso Planning, New Residential and New Commercial building permit layers (ArcGIS), read 19 Oct 2026. We count permits issued July 2024 through June 2026; denied and withdrawn permits are left out. El Paso's new construction file has had no permit status since 2020, so no finished share is shown.

New construction permits the City of El Paso issues inside the city limits: new homes, duplexes and small multifamily buildings, and new commercial buildings, shells, commercial additions and tenant improvements. Remodels, re-roofs, pools, demolition and electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits are not in the city's published file. Unincorporated El Paso County and the separate towns of Horizon City, Socorro, Anthony, Vinton and Clint are not included.

  • The city's file names no contractor, so there are no contractor lists, rankings or firm pages for El Paso.
  • The file covers new construction only. It has no remodel, re-roof, pool, demolition, electrical, plumbing or mechanical permits.
  • Since 2020 the file has no status, final date, job value or ZIP code, so it can't show which permits finished, how long a permit takes or what work cost.
  • The file holds no permits issued in July 2026, so the window ends in June 2026.
  • New homes include duplexes; triplexes and fourplexes count as other. Commercial permits, including apartment buildings and tenant improvements, count as other.

Counts are permits, not jobs: one job can need several permits. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can. Sources and definitions →
