What each job was filed at
"Usual" is the middle permit: half were filed for less, half for more. "Middle half of firms" takes every firm with three or more permits in the trade, finds each firm's usual job, and shows the band the middle 50% of firms sit in; it is the number to hold a quote against.

What moves the price in Albuquerque
The home. Each cost page splits firms into thirds by the usual value of the homes they work on (Bernalillo County Assessor values). Albuquerque's residential value figure is $292,000.
| Job | Firms on the least expensive third | Firms on the most expensive third |
|---|---|---|
| Patio cover & sunroom | $8,944 | $29,000 |
| Addition | $30,000 | $75,000 |
| Solar | $12,192 | $15,329 |
| Remodel & alteration | $40,000 | $30,000 |
| Pools | $70,000 | $45,500 |
Figures from each cost page, data of 16 October 2026. Patio covers triple and additions more than double with the house; remodels and pools run the other way, so a nicer neighbourhood is no reason to accept a higher pool bid.
The firm. Additions split by firm size the opposite way from remodels. The ten busiest addition firms usually file $22,258, the 169 firms with fewer than ten permits $47,500; the ten busiest remodelers usually file $79,483, the 176 smaller ones $30,000 (Albuquerque addition and remodel cost pages). Ask which kind of job a firm's usual figure comes from.
The season. Solar permits peak in October (index 192, where 100 is an average month) and are fewest in April (58). Patio covers peak in August. We have no prices by month, so this tells you when crews are busy, not when they are cheap.
Filed value is not the price
- It is what the applicant wrote down. Some contractors write the contract price, some the permitted part only.
- One permit type covers small and large jobs. Remodel and alteration runs from under $1,700 to over $144,000 for 1 in 10 permits at each end, 85 times as much (Albuquerque remodel cost page). Read the spread before you judge a quote.
- Several permits for one project. A pool or a solar system can carry its own electrical permit. Add the rows.
- Small samples. Pools, additions and patio covers rest on fewer than 250 permits each, so the bands are wide.

How we know this
Every row is a permit type the City of Albuquerque issued in the window 2023-10 to 2026-09 with at least 100 priced permits making up at least 80% of the type. Usual = median of the permits that carry a value; middle half of firms = 25th to 75th percentile of the usual value of firms with three or more permits in the trade (shown when at least eight firms qualify). Albuquerque does not publish the date a permit passed final inspection, so days to final are not shown. The home-value thirds and the busiest-firm figures are copied from each job's cost page and dated. Permit fees are left out; the City's Planning Department publishes them.
Numbers come from City of Albuquerque building permits, data through October 16, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
