Fort Myers building permit search: how to look up permits on an address

To look up a permit in Fort Myers, search the address in the City's EnerGov Customer Self Service portal (fortmyers.gov/EnerGov redirects there). The City's Electronic Permits page says Community Development "has converted to the new Software, Tyler EnerGov", with questions to e-permits@cityftmyers.com or Permitting at 239-321-7925 (read 24 October 2026). The public search takes an address, a permit number or a parcel number and runs without a login. From that search we counted 8,509 permits for one- and two-family homes issued inside city limits from October 2024 to September 2026.

The search results show no contractor and no job value, so neither appears on our pages.

How to look up the permits on a Fort Myers address

  1. Open Customer Self Service and choose Search, then Permit.
  2. Type the house number and street. If the address returns nothing, search the Lee County parcel number instead.
  3. Open each permit. A re-roof, an A/C change-out and a window replacement are usually separate permits.
  4. Read the status and final date on each. After a storm, check that each roof permit shows Finaled.
  5. Compare the work class on the permit with the job on your contract.

What the statuses mean in Fort Myers's file

Status in the record What it means Counted as
Finaled Final inspection passed, with a final date Finished
Closed Closed by the City Finished (no days counted)
Issued Permit issued, no final yet Still open
Expired Lapsed before a final Expired

For permits issued October 2024 to September 2025, 96.4% had finished, 1.8% were still open and 1.8% had expired. With so few left open, a Fort Myers permit from 2024 that still shows Issued is worth a call to Permitting.

Older permits and records

The same search reaches far back: our crawl of it found permits issued as early as 2004. For plans or documents not shown online, the City's footer lists City Public Records at 239-321-7042 and its Transparency Portal (read 24 October 2026).

What our Fort Myers pages add

The City's search answers "what was permitted at this address". Ours answer "how long does this kind of job usually take in Fort Myers", from permits issued October 2024 to September 2025:

Remodels & repairs 1,205 95.6% 53

Start at the Fort Myers overview, the permit statistics and the permit list, or go straight to roofing, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, remodels, pools or new homes. To check the license behind a contractor's name, see How to check a contractor's license in Florida.

What this does not tell you

Our Fort Myers pages cover home permits only; commercial and multi-family work is left out, and so is every other city in Lee County. With no contractor in the public search there are no firm lists, and with no job value there are no costs.

How we know this

Portal details are quoted from the City of Fort Myers' Electronic Permits page, read 24 October 2026, and the search fields were checked against the Customer Self Service portal the same day. Our counts are the City's permits for one- and two-family homes issued October 2024 to September 2026.

Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 19, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.

Questions

  • How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Fort Myers?

Search your address in the City's EnerGov Customer Self Service portal (fortmyers.gov/EnerGov). The public search takes an address, permit number or Lee County parcel number and needs no login. Our check of it on 24 October 2026 returned permits back to the early 2000s.

  • Does the Fort Myers search cover Lee County or Cape Coral?

No. It covers the City of Fort Myers only. Unincorporated Lee County, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs and Estero each run their own permit offices.

  • Can I see the contractor on a Fort Myers permit online?

Not in the public search: the permit rows we checked carry no contractor. Ask the City's permitting office, or look at the permit card posted on the job.

  • What does Closed mean on a Fort Myers permit?

The City has closed the permit. We count Finaled and Closed both as finished, but only Finaled permits carry the final date we use to time jobs.

  • How long does a Fort Myers permit take to reach a final?

For home permits issued October 2024 to September 2025, the usual one took 44 days from issue to final. Plumbing took 18 days, a re-roof 56 and a new house 209.
