Where to search Scottsdale permits
| Tool | Search by | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| SPUR | The portal's public search | Permits and projects started on or after 6 January 2026 |
| Building Permit Search (eServices) | Permit number, street, subdivision, lot, owner or builder name, APN | Permits before the switch |
| Property Information Request | Address or APN | Zoning, a map and "links to permits and other property records" |
| Our Scottsdale firm list | Contractor name | Each firm's permits and share finalled |
The City's Records page adds a Document Search "for permits, certificate of occupancy, site plans, and elevation certificates" and an Open Data Portal with building permits.
How to look up permits on a Scottsdale address
- Decide which system: work started in 2026 is in SPUR; anything earlier is in eServices.
- In eServices, open Building Permit Search and enter the street number and street name.
- Open each permit and read its status and the builder named on it.
- For a full picture of the parcel, run the Property Information Request by address or APN.
- For 2026 work, use the public search in SPUR.
- If an address is not found, the City says to contact its Records department, 7447 E. Indian School Road, 480-312-2356.
What the statuses mean
The pre-2026 open data file (counted 23 October 2026) uses FINALLED, EXPIRED, ACTIVE, REFUND, PENDING, ON HOLD and WITHDRAWN. SPUR uses its own words; on our pages a SPUR "Complete" counts as FINALLED and "Issued" as ACTIVE. We count FINALLED as finished, drop refunded and withdrawn permits, and measure the share on permits issued in 2023 and 2024. Scottsdale records no final date, so we show no days-to-final figure (Scottsdale about page; methodology).
| Trade | Permits | Firms | Finalled (issued 2023 to 2024) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pools | 1,688 | 365 | 81.1% |
| Plumbing | 2,919 | 687 | 80.6% |
| Solar | 1,342 | 137 | 76.7% |
| Remodel | 540 | 432 | 76.4% |
| Addition | 835 | 617 | 65.5% |
| New home | 1,067 | 304 | 78.9% |
EXPIRED is the status to worry about on your own address: the permit ran out before a final, so the work was never signed off. ACTIVE on a 2024 water-heater or fence permit is common here, since only 39.4% of water-heater and 43.6% of fence permits were finalled.
When the record is not online
The Records page says "Building plans are destroyed 180 days after completion or expiration" and that plans belong to the architect or engineer, so ask them for copies. For other records, "If you are unable to find the records using the options above you may submit a public records request" on the City's Public Records page; fees are on the planning fee schedule (read 23 October 2026).
What our Scottsdale data adds
The City's tools are organised by property and permit. Ours lists every Scottsdale permit a firm pulled in three years: the Scottsdale permit statistics, and the compare lists for pool builders, plumbers and remodelers. The Arizona license check is in the Scottsdale contractor license lookup; which jobs need a permit is in Do I need a permit?

How we know this
Portal wording and records rules are quoted from the City of Scottsdale's Planning and Permitting Portal, Records and Property Information Request pages, read 23 October 2026; the status list is a count of the City's pre-2026 open data permit file that day. Our counts combine that file with permits from SPUR's public search, October 2023 to September 2026.
Numbers come from City of Scottsdale building permits (the City's open-data permit file up to January 2026, and the City's SPUR permit system since), with the contractor named on each permit, data through October 22, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
Questions
- How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Scottsdale?
For work started on or after 6 January 2026, use the search in the City's SPUR portal. For earlier work, use the eServices Building Permit Search by street number and name, or the Property Information Request, which links to the permits on an address or parcel number.
- Can I search Scottsdale permits by contractor name?
Yes, for pre-2026 permits: the eServices Building Permit Search has an Owner or Builder Name field. Our Scottsdale pages list 15,401 home permits from October 2023 to September 2026 under 4,394 firms.
- Are Scottsdale building permits public record?
Yes. The City publishes permits through eServices, SPUR and its Open Data Portal, and takes public records requests for anything the lookup tools do not show.
- Can I get the building plans for my Scottsdale house?
Often not from the City. Its records page says building plans are destroyed 180 days after completion or expiration and are the intellectual property of the architect or engineer, so ask them. Site plans are in the City's Document Search.
- What share of Scottsdale permits get finalled?
In our file, 81.1% of pool permits, 80.6% of plumbing permits and 76.4% of remodel permits issued in 2023 and 2024 were finalled.
