How College Station compares with other cities

From our cross-city data studies: the same measure, read the same way, for every city we cover.

How these numbers are made

Source: City of College Station Open Data, Permits - Master Dataset (hrbn-znt6), read 19 Oct 2026. We count permits issued October 2024 through September 2026; denied and withdrawn permits are left out.

Building and trade permits the City of College Station issues inside the city limits. Bryan, unincorporated Brazos County and Texas A&M University buildings on state land are not in this file. Event, vendor, short-term rental and inspection-only records are left out.

  • The city's file names no contractor, so there are no contractor lists, rankings or firm pages for College Station.
  • The file has a current status but no final date, so we can say how many permits finished but not how long they took.
  • The city seldom marks a permit expired: a permit that never got its final inspection usually still reads Issued, so it counts as open here.
  • Finished means the file shows Finaled, Complete, Closed or a certificate of occupancy or completion issued.
  • Plumbing, gas, mechanical and most electrical permits don't say whether the building is a home, so the homes share counts only permits whose type names a single-family home, duplex or townhome.
  • Value is the valuation declared on the permit and is filled on about half the permits, mostly building permits; trade permits usually carry none.

Counts are permits, not jobs: one job can need several permits. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can. Sources and definitions →
