How these numbers are made

Source: Deschutes County Assessor, Assessor_Permits map service (Master Permits and MasterPermits 2021 to 2024 layers), read 23 Oct 2026. We count permits issued January 2023 through December 2024; denied and withdrawn permits are left out.

Building permits Deschutes County Community Development issues (its own 247- permit numbers), for unincorporated Deschutes County and for the cities of Sisters and La Pine, where the county runs the building programme. Bend and Redmond run their own permit offices: their permits are in the same Assessor file but are not counted here.

  • The file is the county Assessor's appraisal copy of building permits, not the permit office's full record: trade permits are left out and it stops at December 2024, so the counts run from January 2023 to December 2024.
  • The file names no contractor and carries no ZIP code, so there are no contractor lists or ZIP code pages for this county.
  • The value is the job value the Assessor's copy records for the permit, not the final cost.
  • A final date is the date the permit's status turned Finaled or Closed in the Assessor's copy; statuses are as of the Assessor's last update and may lag the permit office.
  • Kinds of work come from the permit's work description, since the file has no permit type beyond structural, dwelling, manufactured dwelling, agricultural and demolition.

Counts are permits, not jobs: one job can need several permits. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can. Sources and definitions →
