Arlington, TX building permit search: how to look up permits on an address

To look up a permit in Arlington, Texas, use the City's public search at ArlingtonPermits.com. Its Search for a Permit tab takes an address, a contractor business name, a status and dates, with no login. The catch is on the page itself: "You can only search up to the last years worth of data (previous 365 days)" (read 24 October 2026). For anything older, the City's open-data Issued Permits layer holds a rolling three years. That layer is where our 9,326 Arlington permits issued October 2024 to September 2026 come from.

The open-data layer describes itself as a "3-Year view of City of Arlington permitting: residential, commercial, sign, fence, pool, and certificate of occupancy". Electrical, plumbing, mechanical and roofing permits are not in it, so for that work use the ArlingtonPermits.com search.

How to look up the permits on an Arlington address

  1. Open ArlingtonPermits.com and choose Search for a Permit.
  2. Pick a Permit Type; the search needs one plus at least one other field.
  3. Type the street address and search. Repeat for each permit type you care about (building, electrical, plumbing, fence).
  4. Read the Status, Issued Date and Final Inspection Date columns for each permit.
  5. For a job more than a year old, filter the open-data layer by the address in its FOLDERNAME field, or go to the records request below.

What the statuses mean in Arlington's file

The open-data layer's status field, and how our pages count it:

Status in the record What it means Counted as
Finaled Final inspection passed Finished
Issued Permit issued, not yet finaled Still open
Expired Lapsed before a final Expired
Void / Revoked Cancelled Left out

For permits issued October 2024 to September 2025, 74.3% had reached Finaled, 1.1% were still open and 24.7% had expired. Fence permits expire most often: 35.0% of fence permits from that year lapsed, against 2.9% of new homes.

When the permit you want is older

Neither online tool goes back further than about three years. The City's Open Records Request page sends you to its online request center, where you can submit a request for the permit file on an address (read 24 October 2026).

What our Arlington pages add

The City's tools answer "what was permitted at this address". Ours answer "how long does this kind of job usually take here", from permits issued October 2024 to September 2025:

Kind of work Permits Finished Expired Usual days to final
Remodels & repairs 1,384 80.6% 19.1% 42
Fences & walls 640 64.8% 35.0% 11
New homes 452 93.8% 2.9% 215
Garages, sheds & shade structures 183 75.4% 24.6% 41

Across all kinds of work the usual permit took 62 days from issue to final (permits issued October 2024 to September 2025). The Arlington overview, permit statistics and permit list cover the full October 2024 to September 2026 window, and there are pages for remodels, fences, new homes, pools, additions and demolition. To check a contractor's state license, see How to check a contractor's license in Texas. Looking for Arlington, Virginia? That is the Arlington, VA building permit search.

What this does not tell you

The City's open-data file names no contractor and carries no ZIP code, so we have no firm lists or ZIP pages for Arlington, and trade permits (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing) are missing from our counts. A Finaled status says the City passed the work, not what it cost.

How we know this

Search fields and limits are quoted from the City of Arlington's ArlingtonPermits.com public search, and the layer description from the City's Issued Permits open-data layer, both read 24 October 2026. Our counts are the City's issued building, fence, pool and sign permits, October 2024 to September 2026.

Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 19, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.

Questions

  • How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Arlington, TX?

Open the Search for a Permit tab on ArlingtonPermits.com (ap.arlingtontx.gov), pick a permit type and enter your address. The search only covers the previous 365 days, so for older work filter the City's Issued Permits open-data layer, which holds a rolling three years, or file an open records request.

  • Can I search Arlington permits by contractor?

Yes. The permit search has a Contractor Business Name field, and a separate Search for a Contractor tab lists currently active registered contractors. The City's open-data file names no contractor, so our Arlington pages can't group permits by firm.

  • How do I get an Arlington permit that is more than a year old?

The open-data Issued Permits layer covers about three years. For anything older, submit an Open Records Request through the City's online request center.

  • How long does an Arlington permit take to reach Finaled?

For permits issued October 2024 to September 2025, the usual one took 62 days from issue to final. Fences took 11 days, remodels 42 and new homes 215.

  • Is this Arlington, Texas or Arlington, Virginia?

This guide is for the City of Arlington, Texas. Arlington County, Virginia runs a different permit system; see the Arlington, VA building permit search guide.
