Boca Raton building permit search: eHub, the historical site and the $200 status letter

To look up a Boca Raton building permit, search the address in the City's eHub; the City says "Active permits from 2016 with the most updated results can be found on our new permitting website". For older permits, the Building Permit historical site "will provide you a history of all permits up till 2/13/2023" (Permit History, read 24 October 2026). In the City's published issued-permit files, 16,734 permits were issued from May 2024 to September 2026.

Where to look for Boca Raton permits

The City of Boca Raton Building Division permits work inside city limits only. Homes with a Boca Raton mailing address west of the city are in unincorporated Palm Beach County and get their permits from the county.

Tool Search by What it shows
eHub (EnerGov) Public search (fields not listed by the City) Permits from 2016 on, with status, issue, expiry and final dates
Building Permit historical site Address All permits up to 13 February 2023
Published Applied & Issued Permits Month Monthly files of permits applied for and issued, with value and description; our source
JustFOIA portal Request Status letters, full histories, copies of plans

How to look up the permits on a Boca Raton address

  1. Check the address is inside Boca Raton city limits.
  2. Search the address in eHub and open each permit for its status and inspections.
  3. Search the same address on the historical site for anything before February 2023. For a numbered street, enter only the number (200 NW 2 AVE, not 200 NW 2ND AVE).
  4. Look for permits that read Issued or Expired with no final: those are the open permits a buyer's lender or title company will ask about.
  5. For a document you can hand to a buyer, request the City's permit status letter (below).

What the statuses mean in Boca Raton

The City's published monthly files carry no status, so our pages show no finished share. eHub does. These are the statuses we saw in eHub search results:

Status in eHub What it means
Complete, Certificate Of Completion, Certificate Of Occupancy The permit passed final
Issued Permit in force, no final yet
Expired, Plan Approval Expired Lapsed before final or before issue
In Review, PreScreen, Submitted Application not yet issued
Withdrawn, Abandoned Never went ahead

When the permit you want is not online

The City's Permit History page gives two requests, both through its JustFOIA portal: an open or closed permit status letter on City letterhead, which "in most cases" is used for real estate transactions and has "a $200 fee"; and a public records request for a complete history "from the construction/annexation date to present" or copies of specific permits, plans or documents, for which no fee is listed (read 24 October 2026).

What our Boca Raton pages add

Our Boca Raton page sorts the City's issued permits by kind of work, read from each permit's description, May 2024 to September 2026:

Kind of work Permits (May 2024–Sep 2026) Share
Remodels and repairs 4,556 27%
Roofing 2,228 13%
HVAC 1,907 11%
Electrical 1,350 8%
Plumbing 1,133 7%
Fences and walls 883 5%
Pools and spas 785 5%
Demolition 225 1%
Additions 152 under 1%
Solar 146 under 1%
New homes 137 under 1%
Garages, sheds and shade structures 136 under 1%

68% of the 16,734 permits (May 2024 to September 2026) were for homes. ZIP 33432 had the most, 3,794 (23%), then 33486 with 3,676 (22%); see Boca Raton permits by ZIP code. Each permit carries the job value declared on it, which sets the fee. The permit statistics page has year and month counts, and browse permits lists the rows. To check the contractor, see how to check a contractor's license in Florida.

What this does not tell you

The City's published files name no contractor and carry no status or final date, so we cannot list firms or say how long a permit takes. The April 2024 file is empty, so our window starts in May 2024.

How we know this

Portal names, coverage dates and the records requests are quoted from the City of Boca Raton's Permit History page, read 24 October 2026. eHub statuses are from the City's eHub public search. Counts are from the City's Published Applied & Issued Permits monthly files, read 20 October 2026: permits issued May 2024 to September 2026.

Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 20, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.

Questions

  • How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Boca Raton?

Search the address in the City's eHub for permits from 2016 on, then in the Building Permit historical site, which has permits up to 13 February 2023. If the house is west of the city in unincorporated Palm Beach County, the county holds its permits.

  • How do I get an open permit search for a Boca Raton home sale?

The City's Permit History page says an open or closed permit status letter on City letterhead costs $200 and is requested through the City's JustFOIA portal.

  • How do I get a full permit history or copies of plans in Boca Raton?

Submit a public records request through the City's JustFOIA portal for the history from construction or annexation to the present, or for copies of specific permits, plans or documents. The City's page lists no fee for this request.

  • Can I look up Boca Raton permits by contractor?

The City's pages do not describe a contractor search, and its published permit files name no contractor, so our Boca Raton pages cannot list firms. Check a license at myfloridalicense.com.

  • How do I search an address with a numbered street in Boca Raton?

On the historical site, enter only the number: the City's example is 200 NW 2 AVE for 200 NW 2ND AVE.
