Longmont building permit search: Accela Citizen Access and permit records

To look up a permit in Longmont, Colorado, use the City's Accela Citizen Access portal, linked as "Permits and Inspections" on every City page. Under Building, Search Applications opens a Search for Records page that searches by "Site Address", "Contractor License Information", "Parcel Number" or "Record Information", and by contact. We opened it without an account on 24 October 2026; the City Clerk notes that "An account registration is required to view documents". In the Boulder County Assessor's copy of the City's permits, Longmont issued 9,937 permits from August 2024 to July 2026.

How to look up the permits on a Longmont address

  1. Open Accela Citizen Access, choose Building and then Search Applications.
  2. In the drop-down choose Search by Address and enter the street number and street name. Add a start and end date to narrow a long list.
  3. Open each record. The record type list separates residential decks, PV systems, electric service, additions, new construction and more, so a single job can have more than one record.
  4. Read the status and inspections on each record. For documents such as plans or certificates, register for an account.
  5. For questions, call Building Inspection at 303-651-8332 or email building.inspection@longmontcolorado.gov.

What the statuses mean

The status you see is the City's, in Accela. Our copy of Longmont's permits comes from the Boulder County Assessor, which records the permit number, category, issue date and estimated value but no status and no final date. So our Longmont pages list every permit as issued and cannot say whether it finished or how long it took. To find out whether a permit was finaled, open the record in Accela.

When the record is not online

The City Clerk's public records page points first to the Online Records Portal, which it says holds "Building Permit Documents" among other City records. Records that are not posted "must be gathered by City Staff" under the Colorado Open Records Act: submit the CORA request form linked from that page. The City says it "will respond to your request for records within three working days", and its Public Records Cost Policy (updated October 2025) sets when you can be charged (read 24 October 2026).

What our Longmont pages add

Our Longmont page counts the permits Longmont issued, as the Assessor records them, August 2024 to July 2026:

Kind of work Permits (Aug 2024–Jul 2026) Aug 2025–Jul 2026 Aug 2024–Jul 2025
HVAC 2,394 1,255 1,139
Roofing 1,839 682 1,157
Remodels and repairs 1,830 957 873
Plumbing 1,715 867 848
New homes 351 167 184
Fences and walls 327 160 167
Solar 238 137 101
Garages, sheds and shade structures 194 115 79
Electrical 104 51 53

Roofing permits fell 41% from the first year of the window to the second, while solar rose 36%. 89% of the 9,937 permits were on homes, and ZIP code 80501 had 5,489 of them (55%). The permit statistics page has year and month counts, permits by ZIP code splits them by area, and browse permits lists the rows. To check a contractor's state license where one applies, see How to check a contractor's license in Colorado.

What this does not tell you

Longmont does not publish its own permit file, and permits reach the Assessor some weeks after the City issues them, so our window ends in July 2026. The county copy has no contractor, no status and no final date. The value is the estimated value on the permit, not the final cost.

How we know this

Search options are from the City of Longmont's Accela Citizen Access home and Building Search for Records pages, contacts from its Building Inspection page, and the records process from the City Clerk's Transparency, Public Records and Open Records Requests page, all read 24 October 2026. Our counts are the Boulder County Assessor's Permits.csv, read 19 October 2026: permits issued by Longmont, August 2024 to July 2026.

Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 19, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
