Medford building permit search: how to look up permits on an address

To look up an existing permit in Medford, Oregon, use the City of Medford Development Services Portal. It searches by permit number (in a format like BRNW24-00001), by street number and street name, or by tax lot number, and "provides inspection results" and plan status (read 23 October 2026). Our 4,497 Medford permits from October 2023 to September 2026 come from the City's permit exports.

Where Medford permits live

The portal is for City of Medford permits; neighbouring cities and unincorporated Jackson County issue their own.

The portal does not offer a contractor search. Our compare pages group the City's permits by the contractor on them and match each to the Oregon CCB.

How to look up the permits on a Medford address

  1. Open the Development Services Portal.
  2. Search by address: enter the street number and street name, and leave off the suffix (Dr, St, Ave, Cir, Trl). Or use the tax lot number from the County.
  3. Open each permit for its inspection results and plan status.
  4. Check the contractor on each permit, then its licence on the Oregon CCB search.
  5. If you have the permit number from paperwork, search by it directly; it is the fastest route.

How to read Medford permit statuses

These are the statuses we read in the City's permit exports:

Status in the record What it means Finished in our data?
FINALED Final inspection passed Yes
CLOSED / C OF O ISSUED Closed or certificate of occupancy issued Yes
ISSUED Work allowed, not yet finaled Not yet
EXPIRED / EXPIRED PERMIT Lapsed before final No
VOIDED / WITHDRAWN / CANCELLED Never worked Not counted

Expired permits count against a firm. Irrigation backflow permits are mostly never finaled, so they are ranked on their own (Medford about page, methodology).

When the permit you want is not online

The portal lists no records contact. For an older permit, call City Hall on 541.774.2000 (weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and ask for Building Safety, which the City lists as a department (read 23 October 2026).

What our Medford file adds

The portal answers "what was permitted at this address". We answer "what does this firm's Medford record look like".

509 firms pulled the 4,497 permits. Trade permits close quickly here: the usual plumbing permit finaled in 12 days and electrical in 15.

The Medford permit statistics page has the same file by trade, year and month; the firm lists are on the HVAC, electrical and solar compare pages. To check the licence behind a name on a permit, use the Medford contractor license lookup; to check whether your job needs a permit at all, see Do I need a permit?.

What this does not tell you

The City's current export lists only permits that match a City address point and misses about a fifth of trade permits, so every Medford firm's count is probably about 20% low. Our file covers October 2023 to September 2026.

How we know this

Portal details are quoted from the City of Medford Development Services Portal's search page, read 23 October 2026. Statuses are from the City's TRAKiT permit exports, October 2023 to September 2026.

Numbers come from City of Medford building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits on single-family, duplex and cottage homes (the city's TRAKiT permit exports), data through October 16, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
