Rebate rules below are from BED's EV charger rebates page, read 23 October 2026. The offer is valid through 31 December 2026, and BED may modify or end it at any time.
The rebate
| Household | Rebate | Cap |
|---|---|---|
| All-electric vehicle (new or used, bought or leased) | $900 | 75% of installed cost |
| Plug-in hybrid | $700 | 75% of installed cost |
| Income-qualified, any EV or PHEV | $1,000 |
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Charger | ChargePoint Home Flex, "the only charger currently offered a rebate" |
| Rate | Must enroll in BED's EV Rate; rebate processed after automated confirmation |
| Vehicle | Registered in Burlington, Vermont |
| Timing | Charger bought before or after the EV, no later than 90 days after the EV purchase |
| Account | Active BED account; one rebate per household |
| Installation | Licensed electrician; contractor gets permits from Burlington's Permitting and Inspections Department |
| Keep | BED account number, photos or scans of the charger and installation receipts |
Income-qualified limits (gross household income): 1 person $69,850; 2, $79,800; 3, $89,800; 4, $99,750; 5, $107,750; 6, $115,750; 7, $123,700; 8 or more, $131,700. BED also lists credit-union financing (EastRise Green Loans, Vermont Federal Credit Union) for charger installs and panel upgrades.
The 75% cap only bites on cheap jobs: below $1,200 installed for an EV ($900 is 75% of $1,200), or below about $933 for a plug-in hybrid. Ask for an invoice that shows the charger and installation together, since the cap is on installed cost.
Before you book the electrician
- Buy, or have the electrician supply, a ChargePoint Home Flex; another brand gets nothing from BED.
- Check the 90-day window against your vehicle purchase date.
- Ask the electrician to pull the Burlington electrical permit and send you the permit number; see Burlington electrical permit.
- Ask whether your panel has room for the charger's circuit before you sign; a panel upgrade adds cost, and BED lists credit-union loans that cover it.
- Enroll in the EV Rate, then submit the rebate with receipts.

What this does not tell you
We cannot see which permits got a BED rebate or which charger brand was installed. Burlington has no license data in our file; ask for the electrician's Vermont license number. Filed values are the contractor's estimate on the permit.
How we know this
Rebate amounts, income limits, the charger and rate requirements and the permit rule are from Burlington Electric Department's EV charger rebates page, read 23 October 2026 (offer valid through 31 December 2026). Permit counts are City of Burlington, Vermont permits classified as EV charger installations on homes, October 2023 to September 2026; finished share uses permits a year or more old.
Numbers come from City of Burlington permits on 1–4 family homes, condos and mobile homes (the city's OpenGov permit feed), data through October 20, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
