What each job was filed at
"Usual" is the middle permit: half were filed for less, half for more. "Middle half of firms" takes every firm with three or more permits in the trade, finds each firm's usual job, and shows the band the middle 50% of firms sit in. A dash means fewer than eight firms had three or more permits.

What moves the price in Colorado Springs
The home. Each cost page splits firms into thirds by the usual value of the homes they work on (El Paso County Assessor market values). The city's single-family value figure is $462,000.
| Job | Firms on the least expensive third | Firms on the most expensive third |
|---|---|---|
| Remodel & addition | $10,000 | $26,037 |
| Deck, patio cover & pergola | $7,000 | $14,067 |
| Roof replacement | $9,800 | $14,175 |
| New home | $388,466 | $712,327 |
| Foundation & structural | $32,302 | $14,400 |
| Solar panels | $21,840 | $10,089 |
Figures from each cost page, data of 17 October 2026. Remodels, decks and new homes about double with home value. Foundation and solar run the other way, so a firm's usual figure on a different kind of house tells you little about yours.
The firm. In solar the ten busiest installers usually file $18,480, while the 91 firms with fewer than ten permits usually file $5,500 (Colorado Springs solar cost page). The middle half of solar firms spans $2,850 to $20,120. Ask a solar firm what its usual permit covers (panels, battery, or both) before comparing quotes.
The season. Roofing permits peak in October (index 191, where 100 is an average month) and are fewest in January (67). We have no prices by month, so this is about crews' calendars, not discounts.
Filed value is not the price
- It is what the applicant wrote down. Some write the contract price, some the permitted part only.
- Remodels include additions. A bathroom and a new room share the remodel row.
- Small trade permits. The usual electrical ($600) and HVAC ($3,000) figures are dominated by small jobs; use the firm band, not the usual figure, for a replacement quote.
- Fees. We did not read the Regional Building Department's fee schedule for this guide, so we don't quote permit fees.

How we know this
Every row is a permit type the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department issued inside Colorado Springs city limits in the window 2023-10 to 2026-09 with at least 100 priced permits making up at least 80% of the type. Usual = median of the permits that carry a value; middle half of firms = 25th to 75th percentile of the usual value of firms with three or more permits in the trade (shown when at least eight firms qualify); days = median from permit issue to final inspection. Home-value thirds and busiest-firm figures are copied from each job's cost page and dated.
Numbers come from Pikes Peak Regional Building Department permits inside Colorado Springs city limits, data through October 17, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
