Colorado Springs building permit search: PPRBD permit search and archived permit cards

Colorado Springs permits are issued and searched by the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department (PPRBD), "the building department for the pikes peak region serving Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Fountain, Woodland Park, Manitou Springs, Monument, Green Mountain Falls, Palmer Lake, and Calhan" (Permit Search, read 23 October 2026). The search takes an address, parcel, permit number or map location, and filters by status (Pending, Open, Final, Admin-Closed, Locked, Voided) and discipline. In our file, 3,654 contractors pulled 101,680 permits on homes inside city limits from October 2023 to September 2026.

How to look up permits on a Colorado Springs address

  1. Open Permit Search. In Basic Search, enter the street number and the street name only, as PPRBD asks ("leave off designations like 'n', 's', 'st', 'street'"), then pick the street type and COLORADO SPRINGS.
  2. Read each permit's discipline, status and issue date. Use Advanced Search to narrow by Jurisdiction (Colorado Springs), project type, issue date or valuation range.
  3. If nothing comes back, open the Archived Permit Cards tab: "Paper permit cards were issued prior to electronic permits."
  4. Check the contractor on the permit against PPRBD's contractor search. The license steps are in the Colorado Springs license lookup.

What the statuses mean

Our pages count Final as finished. Almost every PPRBD permit is eventually finaled, so we don't show a finished share in Colorado Springs; it can't tell contractors apart. There is no completion date in the file, so days to final are estimated from status and age, and permits pulled by homeowners are left out (Colorado Springs about page; methodology).

Trade Permits Firms Usual days to final (estimated)
Roofing 23,508 709 41
Electrical 22,297 513 26
HVAC 22,485 421 21
Plumbing 18,399 375 19
Deck 2,531 396 54
Remodel 1,639 422 96
New home 4,274 122 190

A roofing permit still Open months after the roof went on is unusual here: the usual one is finaled in 41 days.

When the record is not online

Start with the Archived Permit Cards tab, which holds scanned paper cards for older permits. PPRBD's search pages showed no separate online records-request form when we read them on 23 October 2026, so for plans or files not online, ask PPRBD directly at its main office, 2880 International Circle, Colorado Springs, CO 80910, or its north office at 3939 Cordera Crest Avenue.
