Murphy, TX building permit search: monthly permit reports and open records

The City of Murphy, Texas does not offer a public permit search; its online portal is for registered contractors. To find a permit on an address, use the City's Permit Issued Reports, monthly PDF reports from January 2024 to September 2026 (read 24 October 2026). Each one lists every permit issued that month with the property address, project type, applied, issued, expiration and completion dates, who the permit was issued to, and its status. By the Collin Central Appraisal District's copy, 2,115 permits were issued on Murphy homes from October 2024 to September 2026.

The City's portal page says "The City of Murphy offers the ability to view issued permits online for all currently registered contractors" and that through the portal "a contractor will be able to view status of issued permits, pay fees, schedule inspections, and view inspection status" (read 24 October 2026).

How to find the permits on a Murphy address

  1. Open Permit Issued Reports and pick the month the work was done, or the month before.
  2. In the PDF, search for your street name (Ctrl+F or Find). Each permit is a block headed PROJECT with the property address under it.
  3. Read Issued to for the contractor, and Status and Completion date to see whether it was closed. A completion date of 0/00/0000 means none was recorded when the report was run.
  4. For anything older than January 2024, or for inspection results, file an open records request or call the Customer Service Center at 972-468-4100.

What the statuses mean

The monthly reports show each permit's status and completion date on the day the report was run. The July 2026 report was run on 14 August 2026, and the permits in it we checked were Open with no completion date, so a report tells you a permit was issued, not whether it was finished; ask the City for the current status. Our source, the appraisal district's copy, has no status or final date, so our pages count permits issued and do not show which finished.

When the record is not online

The City's Public Records Center lets you "Submit Open Records Request" after logging in, check the status of a request, and browse a Public Records Archive of published requests (read 24 October 2026). Name the address and the years you want, and ask for the permits and final inspection results.

What our Murphy pages add

The reports answer "what was permitted on this address in a given month". Our Murphy page answers "what gets done to Murphy homes, and who files it", from permits issued October 2024 to September 2026:

Kind of work Permits (Oct 2024–Sep 2026) Of them, Oct 2025–Sep 2026
Roofing 1,065 488
Remodels and repairs 279 135
HVAC 251 128
Plumbing 208 114
Garages, sheds and shade structures 104 46

Re-roof permits jumped from a handful a month to about a hundred from April 2025 and eased off in 2026; the file does not say why. The permit statistics page breaks the permits down by year, month and season, and browse permits lists the rows without owner names or street addresses. To check a contractor's state license, use How to check a contractor's license in Texas.

What this does not tell you

Our pages count only permits on homes, as the appraisal district records them from the City's monthly reports; commercial permits are left out. The copy has no status and no final date, and we have not matched builder names to Texas license records, so we count permits for the busiest firms and do not rate them.

How we know this

The portal and reports details were read on the City of Murphy's Building & Inspections Online Permitting and Permit Issued Reports pages, and in the July 2026 report, on 24 October 2026; the records process on the City's Public Records Center. Our counts are the Collin Central Appraisal District's building permits on data.texas.gov, read 20 October 2026: permits on Murphy homes issued October 2024 to September 2026.

Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through September 30, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.

Questions
