How to look up permits on a Provo address
- Open Provo Connect. The page needs JavaScript turned on.
- Click Search for a Property and enter the street address.
- Open the property and look through its permits: type, status, issue date and contractor.
- If the record you need is not there, call 801-852-6000 (311 inside Provo) and ask what the City holds for the address before filing a GRAMA request.
What the statuses mean
In the permit file we read, a Provo permit is finished when its status is Closed, Closed - Approved or Legacy Closed, and the City records the date it was finalized. Our pages show the share closed within a year of issue, and the usual days from issue to the finalized date (Provo about page; methodology).
| Trade | Permits | Firms | Closed within a year | Usual days to close |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New home | 458 | 66 | 88.2% | 254 |
| Remodel | 226 | 150 | 66.7% | 227 |
| Re-roof | 286 | 67 | 36.1% | not measured |
| Solar | 179 | 40 | 20.3% | 925 |
An open permit means different things by trade. On a new home it is rare: 88.2% were closed within a year. On a re-roof or solar job it is the norm, because many are never formally closed; that is why we show no speed for re-roofs.
Provo's file names a contractor on most building permits but on almost no mechanical, electrical or plumbing permits, so those trades are not on our pages.
When the record is not online
Provo's GRAMA page says "The City Recorder handles Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA) requests", that requests are for existing records only, and that general questions should go to the department directly (read 23 October 2026). Give the address, the permit number if you have one, and the years.
What our Provo data adds
Provo Connect is organised by property. Ours lists every Provo permit a firm pulled in three years: the Provo permit statistics, and the compare lists for new homes, remodels and roofers. The Utah license check is in the Provo contractor license lookup; which jobs need a permit is in Do I need a permit?

How we know this
Portal wording and phone numbers are from Provo Connect's home page, and the GRAMA rules from Provo City's GRAMA page, read 23 October 2026. Our counts are Provo City building permits on single-family, two-family, townhome and condo homes, October 2023 to September 2026, one record per permit number.
Numbers come from Provo City building permits on single-family homes, two-family homes, townhomes and condos (one record per permit number), data through October 19, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
Questions
- How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Provo?
Open Provo Connect, the City's CityView portal, and use Search for a Property with your address; the City says the portal lets you search properties to find related information. For help, call 801-852-6000, or 311 inside Provo.
- Are Provo building permits public record?
Yes. Provo Connect shows permit information by property, and records that are not online can be requested from the City Recorder, who handles requests under Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA).
- Can I search Provo permits by contractor?
Provo Connect searches by property. Our Provo pages list 1,149 home permits from October 2023 to September 2026 under 323 firms, for new homes, remodels, re-roofs and solar.
- Why is my Provo re-roof permit still open?
Many are. In our file only 36.1% of re-roof permits and 20.3% of solar permits were closed within a year of issue, against 88.2% of new homes. Ask the roofer to book the final inspection.
- Who handles a GRAMA request in Provo?
The City Recorder. Provo's GRAMA page says the Recorder handles GRAMA requests, that they cover existing records only, and that general questions should go to the department concerned.
