How to look up permits on a Tyler address
- Open eTRAKiT and choose Search Permit.
- Search for your address or permit number, or find the house with View on Map.
- Open each permit: read the type, status, issue date and contractor.
- To see inspections, log in with a public registration, open the permit and use the Permit Info tab; failed inspections show correction notes under Inspections, More Info.
- Building permits, the City says, "are valid for six months from the issue date", so an old open permit may have lapsed.
What the statuses mean
In the City's permit table, a permit is finished when its status is FINALED, CO ISSUED, FINAL INSP COMPLETE or COMPLETE. Tyler records no completion date, so our "usual days" are an estimate from how long permits stay open, shown only where that estimate holds up (Tyler about page; methodology).
| Trade | Permits | Firms | Finaled (a year or more old) | Estimated usual days to final |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HVAC | 1,778 | 144 | 51.1% | 142 |
| Electrical | 2,467 | 235 | 46.3% | 46 |
| Plumbing | 1,606 | 129 | 71.4% | 189 |
| Roofing | 2,980 | 218 | 22.9% | not estimated |
| Remodel | 288 | 187 | 71.6% | not estimated |
| New home | 958 | 199 | 79.2% | 269 |
Open permits are common in Tyler: about half of HVAC and electrical permits a year or more old were finaled, and fewer than a quarter of roofing permits. A roofing permit usually closes only when someone requests the final, so ask for it.
When the record is not online
The City Clerk handles public information requests. Its page links a Public Information Request form and a GovQA portal, and lists the Clerk on (903) 531-1106, P.O. Box 2039, Tyler, TX 75710 (read 23 October 2026). Name the address, the work and the years. Our copy of permits from 2018 to 2022 comes from older City exports whose statuses were frozen when exported, so check those permits' current status with the City.
What our Tyler data adds
eTRAKiT is organised by record. Ours lists every Tyler permit a firm pulled in three years: the Tyler permit statistics, and the compare lists for HVAC, electricians and roofers. The TDLR check is in the Tyler contractor license lookup; which jobs need a permit is in Do I need a permit?

How we know this
eTRAKiT options are from the portal's home page, and the inspection, validity and records details from the City of Tyler's Development & Planning FAQs, eTRAKiT and ProjectDox, and City Clerk pages, read 23 October 2026 (the City's main site blocks automated fetching, so those were read through a page reader). Our counts are City of Tyler TRAKiT permits on homes, October 2023 to September 2026.
Numbers come from City of Tyler TRAKiT building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing permits on homes, from three city GIS exports of the permit table, data through October 9, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
Questions
- How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Tyler?
Use Search Permit in the City's eTRAKiT portal, which holds building, electrical and plumbing permits. To see inspection dates and results, the City's FAQ says to log in, open the permit and look under the Permit Info tab.
- Are Tyler building permits public record?
Yes. Permits are searchable in eTRAKiT, and other City records can be requested from the City Clerk under the Texas Public Information Act, by the online form or the GovQA portal.
- Can I search Tyler permits by contractor?
eTRAKiT has a Search Contractors option for contractor records. Our Tyler pages list 13,268 home permits from October 2023 to September 2026 under 1,541 firms, with the TDLR license match for HVAC and electrical contractors.
- How long is a Tyler building permit good for?
6 months from the issue date: the City's FAQ says building permits are valid for six months. Staff can extend it if you are actively working and scheduling inspections.
- Why is my Tyler roofing permit still open?
Most are. In our file only 22.9% of roofing permits a year or more old were finaled, the lowest of the trades in this guide. Ask the roofer to request the final inspection before the last payment.
