How these numbers are made

Source: Jackson County GIS, Property/Permits_Building (building permits), read 20 Oct 2026. We count permits issued August 2024 through July 2026; denied and withdrawn permits are left out.

Permits issued by Jackson County's own Building Safety office, which serves unincorporated Jackson County: White City, Applegate, Ruch, Prospect, Trail and the rural valleys. Medford runs its own building department and has its own pages on this site; Ashland, Central Point and the other cities that run their own building departments are not in this file.

  • The county's file names no contractor, so there are no contractor lists, rankings or firm pages for this county.
  • The file has no issue date. Permits are counted by the month the application came in, and only once the county issued them; applications still in review are left out. The window ends in July 2026 so that recent applications have had time to be issued.
  • The file records the date of a permit's last status change, not a separate final inspection date, so we show how many permits finished but not how long they took.
  • Each trade on a job gets its own permit: a new house usually has a structural or dwelling permit plus separate electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits.
  • The value is the estimated cost on the permit. Electrical and plumbing permits usually carry none.
  • Agricultural-exempt buildings, grading permits and the 2020 wildfire disaster-relief cases are not counted.
  • The file has no ZIP code for most permits, so there are no ZIP code pages.

Counts are permits, not jobs: one job can need several permits. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can. Sources and definitions →
