Jackson County, Oregon building permit search: how to look up permits on a property

To look up a building permit in unincorporated Jackson County, Oregon, the county points to two places: the Oregon ePermitting System "for the newest permits and applications", and Property Data Online for "older Building, Sanitation, and Zoning/Planning permits" by map and taxlot (How To View Permits, read 24 October 2026). The ePermitting building search takes a permit number, street address, parcel number, licence number or business name. In our file the county issued 7,317 permits on applications made from August 2024 to July 2026.

Which properties this covers

Jackson County Development Services, Building Safety, serves unincorporated Jackson County: White City, Applegate, Ruch, Prospect, Trail and the rural valleys. Medford, Ashland, Central Point and the other cities that run their own building departments issue their own permits; Medford has its own pages and permit guide on this site.

The county warns that "Not all Application and Permit data is available through the web in digital format at this time."

How to look up the permits on a Jackson County property

  1. Confirm the property is outside the cities with their own building departments.
  2. For recent work, open Oregon ePermitting and search the street number and name, or the parcel number.
  3. For older work, open Property Data Online, click the Search tab, choose Map & TaxLot and enter both values without spaces (the county's example: Map # 372w25da, TaxLot # 100).
  4. Open the link Click to View Assessment & Planning Details for this account, then Permit Details. Check every account on the taxlot: the county notes some historical permits are tied to only one of them.
  5. Expect several permits per job. A new house usually has a structural or dwelling permit plus separate electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits.
  6. Check the contractor on the Oregon CCB search; our Oregon licence guide explains what to read.

What our Jackson County pages add

Our Jackson County page counts the county's permits by kind of work, by application month, August 2024 to July 2026:

What this does not tell you

The county's file names no contractor, has no issue date (we count by application month) and records only the date of the last status change, so we show how many permits finished but not how long they took. It has no ZIP code for most permits. The value is the estimated cost on the permit; electrical and plumbing permits usually carry none.

How we know this

The search steps are quoted from Jackson County's How To View Permits page and the ePermitting search fields from Oregon ePermitting's building search, both read 24 October 2026. Our counts are the county's Property/Permits_Building GIS layer, read 20 October 2026: permits on applications from August 2024 to July 2026 that the county issued, unincorporated Jackson County only.

Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 20, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.

Questions

  • How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Jackson County, Oregon?

For recent permits, search the address or parcel in the Oregon ePermitting System, which the county links for its newest permits. For older ones, look up the map and taxlot in Property Data Online, open the account's Assessment & Planning Details and click Permit Details.

  • What is my map and taxlot number?

It is the Township, Range, Section and Subsection plus a 3 to 5 digit lot number. The county's example is Map # 372w25da and TaxLot # 100, typed without spaces.

  • My house is in Medford or Ashland. Why is it not in the county's permits?

Medford, Ashland, Central Point and the other cities with their own building departments issue their own permits. Jackson County Building Safety covers unincorporated areas such as White City, Applegate, Ruch, Prospect and Trail.

  • Why does my Jackson County permit list say Permit Issued for a finished job?

Permit Issued means the county has no final recorded on that permit yet. Ask the contractor whether the final inspection was called for and passed. Of permits applied for August 2024 to July 2025 and issued, 95% are finished by our count.

  • Can I search Jackson County permits by contractor?

The Oregon ePermitting building search has fields for licence number and business name. The county's GIS permit file leaves the contractor blank, so our pages do not list firms; check a name on the Oregon CCB search.
