Bellevue building permit search: how to look up permits on an address

To look up an existing permit in Bellevue, Washington, use the Check Status search on MyBuildingPermit, the regional permit site Bellevue uses. Pick Bellevue as the jurisdiction, then search by "all or part of a permit number" or, on the Location tab, by house number, street name or parcel (Status Site User Guide). The City also says its "permitting data (1998 to present) is available" on its open data portal (Permits, read 23 October 2026). Our 22,601 Bellevue permits from October 2023 to September 2026 come from that data.

Where Bellevue permits live

MyBuildingPermit serves several cities, so set the jurisdiction first or the search will mix in other cities' permits. Bellevue's Permit Center is on 425-452-4898 and permits@bellevuewa.gov.

The status site searches by permit or location. Bellevue's permit data records each contractor's Washington L&I registration, so our compare pages group permits by the state business number rather than by spelling.

How to look up the permits on a Bellevue address

  1. Open Check Status and choose Bellevue as the jurisdiction.
  2. Go to the Location tab and enter the house number and street name, or the parcel number from the King County Assessor.
  3. Open each permit for its status, review steps and inspections.
  4. On a trade permit, check the contractor and L&I number against your contract.
  5. For a permit from before the online record, request it through the City's public records portal (below).

How to read Bellevue permit statuses

In Bellevue's permit data the status is simple. We read it like this:

Status in the record What it means Finished in our data?
Closed Final inspection passed; a final date is recorded Yes
Issued Work allowed, not yet closed Not yet
Expired Lapsed before final No

An Issued permit that is more than a year old has no final recorded, and is the one to ask about. Completion rates use permits a year or more old (Bellevue about page, methodology).

When the permit you want is not online

The City's Public Records Requests page says requests for "Police and Development Services records" go through its public records portal; fees may apply to some productions (read 23 October 2026).

What our Bellevue file adds

The status site answers "what was permitted at this address". We answer "what does this firm's Bellevue record look like".

Trade Permits Firms Finished Usual days to final
Electrical 8,025 781 83.3% 45
HVAC & mechanical 5,650 570 73.8% 76
Plumbing 1,727 358 84.3% 190
Water heater 1,402 127 66.8% 32
Side sewer 1,386 296 90.7% 189
Remodel 675 394 75.3% 216

3,655 firms pulled the 22,601 permits. "Finished" is the share of permits a year or more old that the City closed.

The Bellevue permit statistics page has the same file by trade, year and month; the firm lists are on the electrical, HVAC and remodel compare pages. To check the licence behind a name on a permit, use the Bellevue contractor license lookup; to check whether your job needs a permit at all, see Do I need a permit?.

What this does not tell you

Only plan-reviewed building permits record a job value. A builder is named on only about 3 in 10 new-home permits. Our file covers October 2023 to September 2026, with final dates up to 4 September 2026.

How we know this

Search and records details are quoted from MyBuildingPermit's Status Site User Guide and the City of Bellevue's Permits and Public Records Requests pages, read 22 and 23 October 2026. Statuses are from the City's permit data, October 2023 to September 2026.

Numbers come from City of Bellevue permits on single-family homes and condo units, data through October 18, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.

Questions

  • How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Bellevue?

On MyBuildingPermit's Check Status site, choose Bellevue, then use the Location tab to search by house number, street name or parcel number.

  • Are Bellevue building permits public record?

Yes. They are searchable on MyBuildingPermit, the City publishes permit data from 1998 on its open data portal, and older Development Services records can be requested through the City's public records portal.

  • Why does an old Bellevue permit still say Issued?

Issued means the work was allowed but no final inspection has been recorded. If the job finished long ago, ask the contractor to call for the final, or ask the Permit Center (425-452-4898).

  • Can I search Bellevue permits by contractor?

The status site searches by permit number or location. Our Bellevue compare pages group every permit by the contractor's L&I registration.

  • How long does a Bellevue permit take to close?

In our file the usual electrical permit closed in 45 days, HVAC in 76 and a remodel in 216.
