Bellingham building permit search: eTRAKiT, the permit dashboard and public records

Bellingham's permits are in the City's eTRAKiT portal. The City says the site "allows registered users to: Access existing permits and projects", and that "Any member of the public may register to create an account at any time"; once logged in, you "click LINK TO PERMITS, PROJECTS OR LICENSES to access existing records" (read 23 October 2026). Without an account, the City's Construction Permit Activity Dashboard "is updated weekly and shows building permits that have been issued". In our Bellingham file, 778 firms pulled 8,682 permits on homes from October 2023 to September 2026.

How to look up permits on a Bellingham address

  1. Open eTRAKiT, click Setup an Account and register as a Public user.
  2. Log in, then use Search Property or Search Permit with the address.
  3. Open each permit: read the type (electrical, mechanical, plumbing, reroof, building), its status and the business named on it.
  4. Questions about an inspection go to a building inspector, 7:30 to 8:30 am, on 360-778-8363, or email permits@cob.org.
  5. Check the contractor's Washington registration: the steps are in the Bellingham contractor license lookup.

What the statuses mean

Our pages count FINALED as finished, timed to the finaled date. EXPIRED counts as not finished, and VOIDED OR WITHDRAWN permits are left out because no work was done under them (Bellingham about page; methodology).

Trade Permits Firms Finaled (a year or more old) Usual days to final
Electrical 2,730 151 89.7% 89
HVAC 2,581 68 92.6% 24
Water heater 813 34 89.2% 31
Remodel 252 101 48.6% 275
Addition 131 81 65.1% 328
ADU 110 71 79.2% 329
New home 449 68 83.7% 326

Trade permits here close fast: the usual HVAC permit is finaled in 24 days. Building permits are the slow ones, and fewer than half of year-old remodels are finaled.

When the record is not online

The City's Public Records page links an online request portal and names a Permit Center records coordinator among its department contacts. General questions go to the City Public Records Officer at publicrecords@cob.org or (360) 778-8165 (read 23 October 2026).

What our Bellingham data adds

eTRAKiT is organised by permit and property. Ours groups the same permits by firm: the Bellingham permit statistics, and the compare lists for electricians, HVAC, ADUs and remodelers. Which jobs need a permit: Do I need a permit?

How we know this

Portal wording is quoted from the City of Bellingham's eTRAKiT home and login pages, the dashboard description from its Permit Activity page, and contacts from its Public Records page, all read 23 October 2026. Our counts are City of Bellingham permits on homes, October 2023 to September 2026.

Numbers come from City of Bellingham permits on single-family homes, duplexes and townhomes, data through October 15, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.

Questions

  • How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Bellingham?

Register a free public account on the City's eTRAKiT portal (permits.cob.org/etrakit), log in, and use Search Permit or Search Property. The City's Construction Permit Activity Dashboard also shows issued building permits, updated weekly.

  • Are Bellingham building permits public record?

Yes. Permits are in eTRAKiT and on the City's permit dashboard, and anything else can be requested under Washington's Public Records Act; the City's Permit Center has its own records coordinator.

  • How do I request old Bellingham permit records?

Submit a request through the City's online public records portal, linked from its Public Records page, or contact the City Public Records Officer at publicrecords@cob.org or (360) 778-8165.

  • Can I search Bellingham permits by contractor?

Bellingham's permits name the contractor's business but not its state registration number. Our Bellingham pages group 8,682 permits from October 2023 to September 2026 under 778 firms, matched to Washington L&I by name.

  • Why does my Bellingham remodel permit still not show as finaled?

Many are slow to final. In our file only 48.6% of remodel permits a year or more old were finaled, against 92.6% of HVAC permits, so ask the contractor or a building inspector whether the final is booked.
