Denton building permit search: eTRAKiT and the yearly permit files

Denton's permits are searched in the City's eTRAKiT portal. Its Search Permit page searches by permit number, site address, parcel (APN), owner name, permit type or contractor, and the same portal has "Search Contractors" for the City's registered contractors (read 23 October 2026). Every permit issued since 2020 is also published as the City's Building Safety Yearly Permit Report, one file per year. In our Denton file, 2,015 firms pulled 15,700 permits on homes from October 2023 to September 2026.

How to look up permits on a Denton address

  1. Open Search Permit in eTRAKiT.
  2. Set the search field to Site Address, choose Contains, and type the street name and number.
  3. Open each permit: read its type, status and the contractor on it.
  4. To see everything one firm has pulled, set the field to CONTRACTOR instead.
  5. Check the license: Denton registers contractors, and the state checks are in the Denton contractor license lookup.

What the statuses mean

Our pages count FINALED as finished; CANCELLED permits are left out. The City's yearly files have no completion date, so days to final are shown only where we could estimate them. The City's FAQ says "Permits expire 180 days after issuance. When an inspection occurs the permit will renew for an additional 180 days" (Development Services FAQs, read 23 October 2026; Denton about page; methodology).

Trade Permits Firms Finaled (a year or more old)
HVAC 2,360 216 89.3%
Water heater 1,391 113 93.5%
Roofing 595 247 90.0%
Foundation repair 517 54 96.6%
Remodel 323 154 72.4%
Pool 174 64 93.3%
New home 2,906 72 97.6%

Where we can estimate it, the usual roofing permit is finaled in 39 days and the usual new home in 181. Remodels are the trade most often left open, so on a remodel ask for the final inspection before the last payment.
