Which addresses this covers
Building Safety, formerly Code Compliance, "administers and enforces building, flood plain and zoning regulations for residential and commercial construction within Delaware County" (county Code Compliance page, read 24 October 2026). In practice that is the townships and villages: Liberty, Berlin, Orange, Sunbury, Galena, Berkshire, Concord, Genoa, Kingston and the rest. The cities of Delaware, Powell, Dublin, Westerville and Columbus issue their own permits.

How to look up the permits on a Delaware County address
- Check the address is in a township or village, not one of the five cities above.
- For a new house, download the recent year's report from Weekly Permit Reports and search it for the street.
- For remodels, decks or trade permits, open the Public Portal and log in or register.
- Search the address or permit number and open each permit and its inspections.
- If you cannot get in, contact Building Safety through its website with the address and ask for the permit history.
What statuses mean in the county's file
Regional Planning's new-construction layer records permits as they are issued and carries no permit status or final inspection date. On our pages every Delaware County permit counts as issued; none is shown as finished. For the status of one permit and its inspections, the Public Portal is the place to look.
When the record is not online
Make a public records request. The county's public records page says requests can be made by email, in person, by phone or by mail, and that records for Building Safety are kept by the Commissioners' Office: (740) 833-2100, media@co.delaware.oh.us (read 24 October 2026). Each elected office keeps its own records, so do not send a permit request to the Auditor.
What our Delaware County pages add
The portal answers "what was permitted at this address". Our Delaware County page counts Regional Planning's new-construction file, October 2025 to September 2026: 1,127 new-home permits and 35 other new buildings, 97% for homes. The new-home page counts permits per builder, which is volume, not quality. The permit statistics page has the months, and browse permits lists the rows without owner names or street addresses. Ohio licenses some trades at state level; see How to check a contractor's license in Ohio.
What this does not tell you
The file holds new construction only, so it says nothing about remodels, roofs, decks, pools or trade work. It covers twelve months, so there is no year-on-year comparison, and it has no status, final date or ZIP code. The value is the construction cost written on the permit, not the sale price of the home.
How we know this
Portal, report and records details were read on the Delaware County Building Safety site, its eTRAKiT Public Portal and the county's Code Compliance and Public Records Requests pages on 24 October 2026. Our counts are Delaware County Regional Planning's new-construction permit layer, read 21 October 2026: permits issued October 2025 to September 2026, townships and villages only.
Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 21, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
Questions
- How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Delaware County, Ohio?
If the house is in a township or village, the county's Department of Building Safety issued the permit. Its Public Portal is an eTRAKiT site; when we opened its search page on 24 October 2026 it said you must log in first, so register there or call the department. Houses in the cities of Delaware, Powell, Dublin, Westerville and Columbus are permitted by those cities.
- Is Delaware County Code Compliance the same as Building Safety?
Yes. The county renamed Code Compliance the Department of Building Safety. It administers building, flood plain and zoning rules for construction in the county's townships and villages.
- How do I get an old Delaware County, Ohio permit file?
Make a public records request. The county's public records page says Building Safety records are handled by the Commissioners' Office: (740) 833-2100 or media@co.delaware.oh.us. Ohio's public records law is Ohio Revised Code 149.43.
- Does Delaware County publish a list of permits?
Yes. Building Safety posts weekly and yearly permit reports on its Reports page, and Regional Planning publishes a rolling one-year layer of new-construction permits, which is our source.
- How many new homes were permitted in Delaware County's townships?
1,127 new-home permits from October 2025 to September 2026, out of 1,162 new-construction permits in Regional Planning's file for the townships and villages.
