What the statuses mean

Status in the town file What it means How we count it
Finaled, Finaled No Inspection Req'd Signed off Finished
Issued Work under way or not finaled Open
Expired Lapsed before a final Expired
Cancelled Never went ahead Left out
Closed, Closed at Conversion Closed without a Finaled status Not counted as finished

Of permits issued October 2024 to September 2025, 72.7% were finaled, 27.1% were still open and 0.2% had expired by our 19 October 2026 snapshot. Pools finish best (96.8% finaled); remodels and repairs (56.0%) and garages, sheds and shade structures (63.8%) trail, so an open remodel permit a year on is common in Gilbert, and still worth closing before the last payment.

When the record is not online

The Town Clerk's Public Records page takes requests through its online Records Request Portal, where they can be "submitted and tracked"; "Building Records or Engineering As-Builts" is one of the listed record types, and "There is no charge to view most records" (read 24 October 2026). The Clerk's Office number is 480-503-6000.

What this does not tell you

The town's open file names no contractor, so there are no firm lists for Gilbert. It has no roofing or solar work class, so re-roofs are not shown and solar sits inside electrical. The valuation sets the fee; it is not what the job cost.

How we know this
