Eugene contractor license lookup: the Oregon CCB license, electrical and plumbing licenses, and the permit record

Every contractor paid to work on a Eugene home needs an Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB) license, checked on the CCB's License Search; electricians and plumbers also need a license from the state Building Codes Division (BCD). The City of Eugene issued 17,935 permits from October 2024 to September 2026, and 5,835 of them were electrical.

Which license each job needs in Eugene

Work License Where to check
Remodels, additions, new homes, roofing, siding, handyman work CCB license CCB License Search
Heating and air conditioning CCB license CCB License Search
Electrical CCB license plus a BCD electrical contractor license and a licensed signing supervisor BCD license search
Plumbing CCB license plus BCD plumbing licenses BCD license search

The CCB's licensing page says "Oregon law requires anyone who works for compensation in any construction activity involving improvements to real property to be licensed", and its examples include roofing, siding, painting, carpentry, floor covering, concrete, heating, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing and handyman work (read 26 October 2026). Eugene's combination permit form asks the contractor for a "CCB license number", an "Electrical license number" and the "Signing supervisor's license number".

How to run the lookup in five minutes

  1. Find the CCB number on the bid, website or business card. The CCB says contractors "must put this number on their advertising".
  2. Search it on the CCB License Search; the CCB says the license number is "the most accurate way to look up a license". Check that it is active.
  3. Electrician or plumber: search the business and the supervising license on BCD's license search.
  4. See their Eugene jobs. The City's Permit Search has a "By Contractor Name" search; enter part of the name. The Eugene building permit search guide walks through it.

Doing the work yourself

Eugene's permit form has an owner statement for electrical and plumbing work: "This installation is being made on residential or farm property owned by me or a member of my immediate family. This property is not intended for sale, exchange, lease, or rent." If the house is about to be sold or rented, the work goes to a licensed contractor. Rules by trade: electrical, plumbing and HVAC permits.

What our Eugene pages add

The license searches answer "is this firm licensed". Our Eugene page counts what the City permitted, October 2024 to September 2026:

Kind of work Permits (Oct 2024–Sep 2026) Oct 2025–Sep 2026
Electrical 5,835 2,900
HVAC 5,394 2,630
Plumbing 2,926 1,451
Remodels and repairs 503 256
New homes 466 195
Solar 388 142

72% of the 17,935 permits were on homes. The permit statistics page has the months. Statewide rules, bonds and penalties: How to check a contractor's license in Oregon; for another Oregon city, the Bend contractor license lookup.

What this lookup does not tell you

Eugene's issued-permit report names contractors but cuts each name at 30 characters, and we have not matched the names to CCB records, so we do not list, rate or rank firms. The report has no status or completion date, so we show no finished share. A license says the firm may do the work, not how its last job went.

How we know this

License rules are quoted from the Oregon CCB's licensing page and License Search, Oregon BCD's license search page and the City of Eugene's Residential Combo Permit Application and Permit Search, read 26 October 2026. Counts are the City of Eugene's Issued Building Permits report, read 19 October 2026: permits issued October 2024 to September 2026.

Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 19, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.

Questions

  • Who needs a CCB license in Eugene?

Almost anyone paid to work on a house. The Oregon Construction Contractors Board says "Oregon law requires anyone who works for compensation in any construction activity involving improvements to real property to be licensed", and lists roofing, siding, painting, carpentry, flooring, heating, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing and handyman work among its examples.

  • How do I look up a Eugene contractor's CCB license?

On the CCB License Search at search.ccb.state.or.us. The CCB says the most accurate search is by license number, which contractors must put on their advertising, including websites and business cards.

  • Do electricians and plumbers need more than a CCB license?

Yes. Oregon's Building Codes Division licenses electrical and plumbing contractors and workers; search them on BCD's license search. Eugene's combination permit form asks for a CCB license number, an electrical license number and the signing supervisor's license number.

  • Can a Eugene homeowner do their own electrical or plumbing work?

On their own home, yes. Eugene's permit form has an owner statement that the installation is on residential or farm property owned by you or a member of your immediate family, and that the property is not intended for sale, exchange, lease or rent.

  • Can I see a contractor's other Eugene permits?

Yes. The City's Permit Search has a search by contractor name. Our Eugene pages count permits by kind of work but do not list firms, because the City's report cuts contractor names at 30 characters.
