Where to look for Eugene permits

The City of Eugene permits work inside the city. Springfield and unincorporated Lane County run their own permit offices.

Tool Search by What it shows
Permit Search Permit number, address, map and tax lot, contractor name, person or business Each permit with its status, dates and inspections
Building Activity Reports Date range, application type, value of work, permit type, neighborhood Issued permits and submitted applications, exportable to Excel; our source
Permit office, 541-682-5283 Address, permit number Help with a specific permit

How to look up the permits on a Eugene address

  1. Open the Permit Search and enter the address, or the permit number on your paperwork.
  2. Open each result. Eugene files the building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing work for one project as separate permits under one log number, so a single job can show several.
  3. Read the status and completion date on each permit, and the inspection list.
  4. To check a firm, search the contractor's name in the same tool and compare it with the name on your contract.
  5. For a list of everything issued in a date range or neighborhood, run the Issued Building Permits report on the Building Activity Reports page.

What the statuses mean in Eugene

The City's per-permit report shows a status, an expiration date and a completion date for each sub-permit. In a random sample of 150 permit logs issued 2018 to 2024 that we checked, these were the statuses:

Status on the permit What it means How common in our sample
Finished Work passed final; a completion date is shown 140 of 145 sub-permits
Expired Lapsed before final 3
Cancelled Withdrawn before work 2

The bulk Issued Building Permits report, which our pages use, has no status column, so we show no finished share and no time to final for Eugene.

When the permit you want is not online

The City's Building Activity Reports page sends requests for permits submitted before June 3, 1998 to its public records portal (read 24 October 2026).

What our Eugene pages add

Our Eugene page counts the City's permits by kind of work, October 2024 to September 2026:

Electrical 5,835 33%
HVAC 5,394 30%
Plumbing 2,926 16%
Remodels and repairs 503 3%

Additions 152 under 1%

72% of the 17,935 permits (October 2024 to September 2026) were filed under the City's Residential application type. Building permits carry the declared value of work, so the remodel, new-home and addition pages show values. The permit statistics page has year and month counts, and browse permits lists the rows. To check the contractor behind a permit, see how to check a contractor's license in Oregon.

What this does not tell you

The City's report cuts contractor names at 30 characters and we have not matched them to Oregon CCB records, so we do not list or rank Eugene firms. It has no ZIP code and no status. Trade permits are left unpriced.
