The Henderson rule
Two layers apply.
The City. Henderson's administrative code (the City's posted ordinance for Municipal Code chapter 15.01, read 23 October 2026) says work may not be built or altered until the "appropriate building, electrical, plumbing" permit "has first been obtained" (15.01.125). Solar is not among the electrical exemptions in 15.01.140, which cover items such as like-for-like overcurrent devices, low-voltage wiring and temporary decorative lighting. The City's Submittal Checklists page (read 26 October 2026) lists a separate Residential Photovoltaic (Solar) checklist, plus checklists for Electrical Permits and a Homeowner Permitting Guide. The City says checklists exist "to ensure applications include all of the information necessary for a timely review."
The state. NRS 624.865 says a contractor working on a residential photovoltaic system must "Apply for and obtain all applicable permits for the work", even when the owner is acting as the builder, and meet the requirements of the utility "to which the work will interconnect" (read 23 October 2026).

Why your name should not be on the permit
The Nevada State Contractors Board's Residential Recovery Fund pays up to $40,000 when a licensed contractor's residential work goes wrong, but "A claimant is not eligible for payment from the Fund if the claimant obtained any building permit for the project." A salesperson who asks you to pull the permit "to save time" is asking you to give that up, and asking the contractor to break NRS 624.865.
Before signing, get the contractor's license number, search it on the NSCB License Search, and confirm the status, a classification that covers solar, and a monetary limit (NRS 624.220) above your contract price. If a sales company signs and a different firm installs, check both. Steps: Henderson contractor license lookup.
How the permit runs
- The installer applies in DSC Online with the City's PV checklist items.
- Henderson's code says fees "must be paid" at or before issue (15.01.260), and inspections happen at stages rather than continuously (15.01.025).
- You can follow the permit yourself: DSC Online offers "Search / View Public Information" and "View inspection results". See Henderson building permit search.
- The status you want is Done. Done means the City finaled the work; it is not NV Energy's permission to operate.
What 6,124 Henderson solar permits show
| Measure | Henderson solar |
|---|---|
| Permits on homes, October 2023 to September 2026 | 6,124 |
| Firms | 83 |
| Firms with a permit in the last 12 months | 43 |
| Done (permits a year or more old) | 93.2% |
| Usual days from issue to Done | 25 |
| 10th / 90th-percentile firm (10+ permits) | 86.7% / 98.7% |
| Busy firms under 70% Done | 0 of 39 |
| Busiest firm / five busiest firms' share | 21.9% / 55.6% |
| Firms with 5+ permits, none in the last 12 months | 14 |
| Busiest / quietest month (100 = average) | October (143) / February (79) |
Henderson solar permits close quickly and almost all close: 93.2% reached Done, and even the 10th-percentile busy firm finaled 86.7%. With a spread that narrow, a firm well under that line stands out. The bigger risk is the firm leaving: 14 firms with five or more permits filed none in the last 12 months, which matters when you need warranty service years later. The busiest installer in the last 12 months, Sunrun Installation Services Inc., filed 306; the five busiest hold 55.6% of all permits.

What this does not tell you
Henderson's permits carry no job value, so we show no price. We have not matched Henderson firms to the NSCB file, so check the license yourself. Our file covers the City of Henderson only, not Las Vegas or unincorporated Clark County. The code text is the City's posted ordinance copy; the City's adopted text governs. We could not open the PV checklist document itself, so ask the installer for it or call 702-267-1410.
How we know this
The permit rule is from the City of Henderson's posted Building and Fire Safety Administrative Code (chapter 15.01), read 23 October 2026; the checklist list and fee-schedule date from the City's Submittal Checklists and Building Online Services pages, read 26 October 2026; the contractor rules from NRS 624.220, 624.860 and 624.865 and the NSCB Recovery Fund page, read 23 October 2026. Counts are City of Henderson solar permits on homes, October 2023 to September 2026; "Done" uses permits a year or more old.
Numbers come from City of Henderson development services permits, data through October 14, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
Questions
- Do I need a permit for solar panels in Henderson, NV?
Yes. Henderson's code requires a building or electrical permit before work that is not on its short exempt list, and Nevada's NRS 624.865 requires the solar contractor to apply for and obtain all applicable permits for a residential photovoltaic system.
- Can a homeowner pull a solar permit in Henderson?
Not if a contractor is doing the work. NRS 624.865 puts the permit on the contractor even when the owner is acting as the builder, and the NSCB says a claimant who obtained any building permit for the project cannot be paid from the Residential Recovery Fund.
- How long does a solar permit take in Henderson?
Fast once installed. In our file the usual Henderson solar permit reached Done 25 days after it was issued, and 93.2% of those a year or more old were finaled.
- How much is a solar permit in Henderson?
We could not read a current fee from the City's site. Henderson's Building Online Services page says a new DSC fee schedule took effect October 1, 2025; DSC Online shows the fee when the installer applies, or call the Development Services Center on 702-267-1410.
- What does a solar installer need to be licensed for in Nevada?
Under NRS 624.860 no one may perform, offer, bid on or sign a contract for work on a residential photovoltaic system unless they hold an NSCB license authorizing that work or work for someone who does. Check the license, classification and monetary limit on the NSCB License Search.
