What it costs

From Tyler's Schedule of Fees (read 23 October 2026):

Plumbing item Fee
Each fixture (water closet, sink, lavatory, etc.) $6.00
Gas openings $20.00 for the first 10, $0.50 each additional
Additional gas meter $15.00 each
Boiler $50.00
Yard irrigation $50.00
Temporary service $50.00
Re-inspection $50.00
Minimum fee $50.00

A small job hits the minimum: a bathroom remodel with a toilet, sink and shower is 3 × $6.00 = $18.00, so it is billed at $50. The fee schedule itself shows no water-heater line on the plumbing side; ask Building Services ((903) 531-1151) how a water heater replacement is permitted.

Who files it

Texas licenses plumbers through the State Board of Plumbing Examiners, not TDLR. Check the responsible master plumber on the board's public search; the board says "Activities allowed by a specific license/registration type shall not be performed with an expired license/registration" (licensee list). Tyler's FAQ asks contractors to register with the Master Registration Form, "A copy of your license(s)" and a certificate of insurance, and each trade has its own permit linked to the general contractor's.

We found no City page on homeowner plumbing permits. Ask Building Services before planning your own plumbing work.

How to apply and close it

  1. Apply in eTRAKiT.
  2. Request inspections there before any pipe is covered; "Each trade must schedule its own inspections", and requests in before 7 a.m. that meet all requirements usually happen the same day (FAQ).
  3. Read failed results under Inspections, More Info, Notes. A second try costs $50.
  4. Confirm FINALED in eTRAKiT, and on a remodel check the Permit Info tab, which shows the linked trade permits.

What this does not tell you

Tyler records no completion date, so days to final are an estimate. Plumbing permits here carry no job value, so we show no usual price. We have not linked Tyler plumbers to the plumbing board's file, so check the license yourself. City pages were read through a page reader because the main site blocks automated reading; Building Services confirms current fees.

How we know this

Fees are quoted from the City of Tyler's Schedule of Fees, and the registration, inspection and pool rules from its Development & Planning FAQs, read 23 October 2026; plumbing licensing from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners, read 22 October 2026. Counts are City of Tyler TRAKiT plumbing permits on homes, October 2023 to September 2026; "finaled" uses permits a year or more old.

Numbers come from City of Tyler TRAKiT building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing permits on homes, from three city GIS exports of the permit table, data through October 9, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
