Getting the permit vs finishing the work: two different clocks

“How long does a permit take?” can mean two waits. This page measures the second one.

Getting the permit (not measured): application → issue, the wait for the county to approve the plans. Ask the county for its current review times.

Finishing the work (measured here): issue → final. From the day the county issued the permit to the day it recorded the final inspection. We count only permits issued Oct 2024–Sep 2025, at least 12 months before the file ends, so slow jobs have had time to finish; a permit still open is not in the days.

Permits Kitsap County Community Development issues for unincorporated land only: Silverdale, Kingston, Manchester, Hansville, Seabeck, Olalla, the county parts of the Port Orchard, Bremerton and Poulsbo growth areas, and the rural county. Bremerton, Port Orchard, Poulsbo and Bainbridge Island issue their own permits and are not in this file.

  • The county's file names no contractor, so there are no contractor lists, rankings or firm pages for this county.
  • Electrical permits in unincorporated Kitsap County come from the Washington Department of Labor & Industries, not the county, so electrical work (other than generators filed with gas piping) is not in this file.
  • The county files heating, cooling and plumbing under one mechanical-and-plumbing permit; we split it by the work described.
  • Solar permits are filed with the county fire marshal; a solar permit counts as a home when its parcel is residential.
  • The file has no expired status: a permit that lapsed without a final still shows as issued, so it counts as open here.
  • The file has no ZIP code, so there are no ZIP code pages.
  • Job value is the value declared on the permit. A final date is the county's finaled date.

Counts are permits, not jobs: one job can need several permits. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can. Sources and definitions →
