How McKinney compares with other cities

From our cross-city data studies: the same measure, read the same way, for every city we cover.

How these numbers are made

Source: City of McKinney GIS, Snapshotv2 map service: Residential Permits (layer 3) and Commercial Permits (layer 4), read 19 Oct 2026. We count permits issued October 2024 through September 2026; denied and withdrawn permits are left out.

New-home permits and commercial building permits (new buildings, additions and finish-outs) the City of McKinney issues inside the city limits. The city publishes no dated file of its trade, re-roof, remodel, pool or other home permits, so those are not here. Unincorporated Collin County and neighboring Allen, Frisco, Prosper and Melissa issue their own permits.

  • The city's file names no contractor (builder), so there are no contractor lists, rankings or firm pages for McKinney.
  • Only new homes and commercial building permits are published with dates: McKinney's trade, re-roof, remodel and pool permits are not in this file, so the totals here are far below everything the city issues.
  • The file has no status column. A permit with a completion date counts as finished and every other permit as open; cancelled or lapsed permits can't be told apart from work in progress.
  • Days to final run from the issue date to the city's completion date, which for a new home is roughly how long it took to build.
  • Value is the valuation declared on the permit, not the sale price of the home.
  • The file has no ZIP code, so there are no ZIP pages for McKinney.

Counts are permits, not jobs: one job can need several permits. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can. Sources and definitions →
