How to look up the permits on a Culver City address
- Open the Citizen Portal's Building search.
- Choose Site Address from the search drop-down and enter the street number and street name. Leave the city and ZIP blank if the first try finds nothing.
- Open each record on the address. Culver City files electrical, plumbing and mechanical work as separate records from the building permit, so one remodel can show three or four.
- Read each record's status and inspection list.
- To check the firm, search again by Contractor License Information with the state licence number from your contract, then look that number up at the CSLB.
What the statuses mean
| Status in the city's file | What it means |
|---|---|
| Finaled | Final inspection passed |
| Issued | Permit issued, not yet finaled. The city does not mark lapsed permits expired, so an old permit that never finaled also still reads Issued |
Of permits opened October 2024 to September 2025, 72.9% had reached Finaled by our count and 27.1% were still open. An Issued permit more than a year old is worth asking the contractor about before the last payment.
When the record you want is not online
The city takes public records requests through culvercity.nextrequest.com; you can also write by mail, in person or to city.clerk@culvercity.org. The city's Public Records Request page lists building permits and site plans among its records, aims to respond within 10 days, and says electronic copies are free (read 24 October 2026). If you are selling, the Building Safety page points sellers to the application for a Report of Building Records. Building Safety's counter is reachable at building.safety@culvercity.org and (310) 253-5800.

| Remodels and repairs | 245 | 101 |
| ADUs | 137 | 38 |
49% of the 5,672 permits were for homes. By ZIP code, 90230 had 2,720 permits, 90232 had 2,367 and 90066 had 578 in that window (ZIP code pages). The permit statistics page has counts by year and month, and browse permits lists the rows. To check a licence, see how to check a contractor's license in California.
What this does not tell you
The city's file names no contractor and carries no job value or final date, so we show no firm lists, no costs and no time to final. It also has no issue date: permits are dated by the day the record was opened, which for plan-checked work can be weeks or months earlier.
How we know this
Search options are read from the City of Culver City Citizen Portal on 24 October 2026; portal and records-request wording is from the city's Building Safety Permits, Building Safety and Public Records Request pages, read the same day. Our counts are the city's Accela Building Safety Permits layer, read 23 October 2026: permits opened October 2024 to September 2026 that reached Issued or Finaled.
Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 23, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
