Johns Creek building permit search: the CSS portal, statuses and records

To look up a permit in Johns Creek, Georgia, use the City's Customer Self-Service portal, which the City links from johnscreekga.gov/css. The City says "A User Account required to submit applications, make payments, and conduct other business, though anyone may access public information in EnerGov" (read 24 October 2026). The portal's permit search has fields for permit number, address and parcel number, with filters for permit type, status and issue, expiration and final dates. In our file, the City issued 3,979 permits on homes from August 2024 to July 2026.

How to look up the permits on a Johns Creek address

  1. Open the CSS portal. You do not need to log in to search.
  2. Choose Search and set the search to Permit.
  3. Type the street address (or the permit number from your paperwork, which starts with a prefix such as MECH, ELER, PLMR or BLDR) and search.
  4. Open each permit on the address. An HVAC change-out, a panel upgrade and a water heater are separate permits.
  5. Check the status and, for recent work, the inspections. The City's Guide for Online Permit Portal lists the permit counter at City Hall, 11360 Lakefield Drive, open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What the statuses mean

Status in the City file What it means How we count it
Complete Final inspection passed Finished
Issued, In Review, Fees Due, blank Active, or not finaled yet Open
Expired, Abandoned Lapsed without a final Expired
Void, Withdrawn, Denied Never went ahead Left out

Of the permits issued August 2024 to July 2025, 69.2% were Complete, 22.5% had expired and 8.3% were still open by our 23 October 2026 snapshot. More than one in five expiring is high; if a permit on your house reads Expired, the work was never given a final inspection.

When the record is not online

For records not in the portal, the City Clerk's Request Public Records page links to the City's online records request system. The page says fulfilling requests "may incur copying and/or administrative costs", including "copying charges of $.10 per page" and charges for "search, retrieval, and other direct administrative costs"; the City Clerk's line is 678-512-3162 (read 24 October 2026).

What our Johns Creek pages add

Our Johns Creek page adds the City's home permits up, August 2024 to July 2026:

Kind of work Permits (Aug 2024–Jul 2026) Last 12 months (Aug 2025–Jul 2026) 12 months before
HVAC 1,255 633 622
Electrical 949 469 480
Plumbing 817 421 396
Fences and walls 114 66 48
Residential building (new homes, additions, remodels) 827 415 412

The City's residential building permits do not say whether they are a new house, an addition or a remodel, so they are counted together. The permit statistics page has the month-by-month counts and browse permits lists the rows.

What this does not tell you

The City's file names no contractor and has no job value, final date or ZIP code, so we show no firms, costs or time to final. The City last refreshed it in mid-August 2026, which is why the window ends in July 2026; the portal itself is current.

How we know this

The account rule and portal link are quoted from the City of Johns Creek's CSS page, the counter details from its Guide for Online Permit Portal, and the records fees from its Request Public Records page, all read 24 October 2026; the search fields are those of the portal's public permit search form on the same date. Our counts are the City's Building Permits Issued layer, read 23 October 2026: home permits issued August 2024 to July 2026.

Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 23, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
