Nashua building permit search: the city's permit map and what it shows

Nashua has no public permit search portal. The closest thing is the City's permit map: the Department of Building Safety page links a "Permits GIS Map" and says the "GIS Projects Map shows current permits and permits for the past three years" (read 24 October 2026). The same permits are published as a map layer on the City's open data site, which is the source of our 10,363 Nashua permits from October 2024 to September 2026.

Where Nashua permits live

Permitting itself runs in an internal city system with no public lookup by permit number or contractor. What the public can see:

Tool Search by What it shows
Permits GIS Map (linked from the Building Safety page) Location on the map Current permits and the past three years: project number, description, type of improvement, dates
Building_Permits_for_AGOL layer (open data) Any field, including location and property account The rows behind the map; our source

Neither one names a contractor, gives a job value or shows whether a permit was finaled.

How to look up the permits on a Nashua address

  1. Open the Department of Building Safety page and follow the Permits GIS Map link.
  2. Zoom in to the property.
  3. Click each permit point on the lot to read its project number, description and dates. Electrical, plumbing and mechanical work show as separate permits from the building permit.
  4. Write down the project numbers. They are what the Department of Building Safety will ask for if you call about an inspection or a final.
  5. If the work is more than about three years old, it will not be on the map; ask the department directly.

What the statuses mean

They don't, in the public file. Every permit in both of the City's published layers carries the status I (issued), so the map can't tell you whether a job passed its final. Our Nashua pages count permits issued; they do not show a finished share or a time to final. To confirm a final, ask the department with the project number.

When the record is not online

The City publishes only about the last three years of permits; older permits are not public in bulk. For an older permit or the file behind one, contact the Department of Building Safety through its page. We could not read a Building Safety records-request page, so we don't describe one here.

What our Nashua pages add

The map answers "what was permitted at this spot". Our Nashua page answers "what gets built in the city, and when", from the City's own layers, October 2024 to September 2026:

Kind of work Permits (Oct 2024–Sep 2026) Last 12 months (Oct 2025–Sep 2026) Homes
HVAC 4,215 2,063 83%
Electrical 2,635 1,318 71%
Plumbing 1,295 623 75%
Remodels and repairs 568 276 100%
Garages, sheds and shade structures 467 236 100%
Solar 241 105 96%
Additions 130 65 100%
New homes 118 46 100%

77% of the 10,363 permits were for homes. The permit statistics page has the file by year, month and season, and browse permits lists the rows without owner names or street addresses.

What this does not tell you

The City's layers name no contractor, carry no job value, no final date and no ZIP code, so we show no firm lists, costs, finished share or ZIP pages for Nashua. The City's type of work is cut to 30 characters in the file. A permit on the map means the City issued it, not that the work passed inspection.

How we know this

The map's coverage is quoted from the City of Nashua Department of Building Safety page, read 24 October 2026. Our counts are the City's Building_Permits_for_AGOL layer and its June 2025 snapshot layer, read 20 October 2026: building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits issued October 2024 to September 2026.

Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 20, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.

Questions

  • How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Nashua?

Open the Permits GIS Map linked from the City's Department of Building Safety page and find your property. The City says the map shows current permits and permits for the past three years. For anything older, ask the Department of Building Safety.

  • Does Nashua have an online permit search?

Not a records search by permit number or contractor. Nashua's permitting runs in an internal city system; the public view is the permit map and the open data layer behind it, which cover about three years.

  • Can I look up a Nashua contractor's permits?

No. The City's published permit layers name no contractor or applicant, so neither the map nor our Nashua pages can list a firm's jobs. Ask the contractor for permit numbers from past jobs and look those addresses up on the map.

  • Can I tell whether a Nashua permit passed final inspection?

Not from the public file: every permit in it carries the status I (issued). Ask the Department of Building Safety whether the final inspection on your permit was signed off.

  • How many building permits does Nashua issue?

About 5,182 a year: 10,363 permits from October 2024 to September 2026, 4,215 of them HVAC.
