How to look up the permits on a Roseville address
- Open permitsonline.roseville.ca.us and go to the Building tab.
- Choose the permit search and enter your address, or the permit number from your paperwork, in whichever fields the form offers.
- Open each record. Quick over-the-counter permits for heating and air, plumbing, electrical, re-roofs and windows are separate records from a remodel or addition permit.
- Read the record's status and inspection history to see whether it reached final approval.
- If the job isn't there, or you need plans, file a public records request (below).
What the statuses mean
The City's open data file lists each permit when it is issued and carries no status, no final inspection date and no address, so our pages can't show which permits finished or how long they took. The status and final approval are in the OPS record for the permit.
When the record is not online
The City says "Requests for copies of Building Permit records/plans are handled by the City of Roseville City Clerk" through a public records request, and cites the Public Records Act rule that the agency decides within 10 days whether it has disclosable records. For a single-family home, Building can often pull a plot plan from archived permit records showing square footage, lot dimensions, drainage direction and setbacks; "Not all residential properties will have a plot plan on file", and most that do are production homes. Contact Building at (916) 774-5332 or OPS@roseville.ca.gov (FAQs, read 24 October 2026).

What this does not tell you
Only 28% of the 12,362 permits count as homes in our figures, because the file doesn't mark the quick trade permits (heating and air, plumbing, electrical, re-roofs, windows) as residential even though most are. The file names no contractor, so there are no contractor lists for Roseville, and its job value sets the fee rather than recording a final cost. Rocklin, Granite Bay, Citrus Heights and unincorporated Placer County are outside the city and not in the file.
How we know this
The portal and records wording is quoted from the City of Roseville Development Services FAQs, read 24 October 2026. Our counts are the City's Building Permits Issued file (data.roseville.ca.us, buxi-gsvq), read 19 October 2026: building permits issued October 2024 to September 2026, with certificates of occupancy left out.
Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 19, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
