Cape Coral building permit search: EnerGov permit search and City Clerk records

Cape Coral permits are looked up in the City's EnerGov Citizen Self-Service portal, which the Permitting Services Division links as "Permit Search" (Permitting Services Division, read 23 October 2026). For copies of plans, the City Clerk's Records Management Division says "Residential and commercial building plans are also available, including permits and applications, site plans, floor plans, dock plans, site surveys, and other building documents." In our Cape Coral file, 4,299 firms pulled 39,494 permits on homes from January 2025 to September 2026.

The City's open permit table starts in January 2025, the start of its current permitting system, so our record covers about 21 months rather than three years.

How to look up permits on a Cape Coral address

  1. Open Permit Search in EnerGov.
  2. Search your address.
  3. Open each permit and read its type (roofing, A/C change-out, windows, pool), its status and the firm named on it.
  4. Check the contractor's state license with Florida DBPR; the steps, and the City's own contractor registration, are in the Cape Coral contractor license lookup.

What the statuses mean

Our pages count Closed and Closed With Exception as finished; the close date sits a day after the last inspection, so days to close are measured. Expired, Stop Work Order, Issued and On Hold count as not finished. Only permits issued January to mid-October 2025 are old enough to count toward the finished share (Cape Coral about page; methodology).

Trade Permits Firms Closed (a year or more old) Usual days to close
Roofing 2,018 465 98.4% 39
HVAC 5,015 455 93.2% 41
Windows and doors 4,787 433 96.8% 44
Fence 4,177 264 98.3% 21
Pool 2,081 219 90.4% 177
Addition 172 100 76.6% 301
New home 3,254 362 92.1% 232

Roofing permits here usually close in 39 days. One still open three months after the roof went on is behind; ask when the final inspection is booked.

When the record is not online

The City Clerk's Records Management page says public records requests, except police records, "are handled by the Records Management Division of the City Clerk Department". Submit one through the online portal linked there, email the Records Division at ctyclk@capecoral.gov, or call 239-574-0411; "Charges for the documents may apply", and "if your request is extensive in nature, there may be hourly charges" (read 23 October 2026).

What our Cape Coral data adds

EnerGov is organised by permit. Ours groups the same permits by firm: the Cape Coral permit statistics, and the compare lists for roofers, HVAC, windows and pools. Which jobs need a permit: Do I need a permit?

How we know this

Portal and records wording is quoted from the City of Cape Coral's Permitting Services Division and City Clerk Records Management pages, read 23 October 2026. Our counts are City of Cape Coral permits on homes, January 2025 to September 2026.

Numbers come from City of Cape Coral building permits (the city's open permit table starts January 2025), data through October 19, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.

Questions

  • How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Cape Coral?

Use Permit Search in the City's EnerGov Citizen Self-Service portal and search your address, then open each permit to read its type and status.

  • Are Cape Coral building permits public record?

Yes. Permits are searchable in EnerGov, and the City Clerk's Records Management Division says residential building plans, permits, applications, site and floor plans, dock plans and surveys are available on request.

  • How do I get old Cape Coral building plans?

Submit a public records request through the City Clerk's online portal, email the Records Division, or call 239-574-0411. Charges for documents may apply, and extensive requests can carry hourly charges.

  • Can I search Cape Coral permits by contractor?

Our Cape Coral pages group 39,494 permits issued from January 2025 to September 2026 under 4,299 firms, so you can open any contractor's record. State licenses are checked with Florida DBPR.

  • Why does my Cape Coral permit say Expired?

The permit lapsed before it was closed. Most Cape Coral permits do close: in our file 98.4% of roofing permits and 93.2% of HVAC permits a year or more old were Closed, so an expired one is worth raising with the contractor.
