How the records work in Little Rock, AR

We use public records to help you make a shortlist. They show what a contractor has filed and where they have worked in Little Rock, AR. They can't tell you whether someone will be right for your home.

Is a contractor licensed in Little Rock, AR?

Arkansas licenses residential builders and home-improvement contractors (Contractors Licensing Board), electricians, plumbers and HVAC contractors.

We don't hold the licensing board's file for Little Rock, AR, so we don't show license status for the 1,228 firms on the permit file. Check each one yourself.

How to check one firm

Ask the contractor for the license number and look it up at Arkansas CLB Find a Licensed Contractor.

What the numbers mean

Typical cost

The middle value recorded on this contractor's matching permits. It's a permit value, not a quote or the final price. Ask for a written estimate.

Permits in the last 12 months on file

Matching Little Rock, AR permits in the most recent year of our data (May 2025–Apr 2026; the file ends Apr 2026). It shows recent recorded activity here, not every job the company did.

Completion rate

For contractors with at least 8 permits a year or more old, the share the City closed, compared with permits of the same trade issued in the same quarter. Lawn irrigation and additions aren't measured. A permit can stay open because of paperwork or timing, so this isn't a workmanship grade.

About the ranking: The score combines how much of this exact work a contractor has on record, how often their older permits reached completion (where we can measure it), how well their usual job size matches your budget, how recently they've been active, and how much of their work is near you. A measure we can't calculate is left out rather than guessed, and a thin record pulls the score toward the middle. A contractor whose matched license has a problem is listed after everyone else. You set the weights with the sliders on every list.

Little Rock, AR specifics: Little Rock posts its permit file as a periodic download, not a live feed. The edition used here runs to April 30, 2026, so the three-year window is May 2023 through April 2026 and nothing filed after that is included yet. The file records whether a permit is closed but not the date it closed, and an estimate of speed from permit status didn't hold up when we tested it, so no Little Rock trade shows a speed score or a usual number of days. The City records a job value only on building and HVAC permits: electrical, plumbing, lawn irrigation, solar and generator permits carry none, so those trades show permit counts and completion but no typical cost or price comparison. Lawn irrigation permits are nearly all closed within a month of being issued, so that trade shows no completion rate. A trade permit pulled under a builder's account, or by the builder of the same house, is counted as the builder's, and owner-pulled permits aren't ranked. Home values come from the county CAMA roll matched by street address, so about 8% of permits show no home value. Arkansas's licensing boards publish no bulk license file (they offer a per-name search only), so license status isn't shown. Locations are by ZIP code. Some firms appear under two spellings.

Common questions

  • Where does the information come from?Work history comes from City of Little Rock Planning and Development permits on single-family, duplex and manufactured homes (the City's periodic permit download, the edition that runs to April 30, 2026). Home values come from Pulaski County CAMA market values (Arkansas GIS Office parcel file), matched by street address. The current data covers May 2023 through April 2026, so it won't reflect a filing made after that.
  • If I don't see a permit, does that mean the contractor did something wrong? No. Some jobs don't need a permit, some are filed under a different business name, and work outside Pulaski County isn't in this view. A blank record is a reason to ask questions, not an accusation.
  • How do I check if a contractor is licensed in Little Rock, AR?Ask the contractor for the license number and look it up at Arkansas CLB Find a Licensed Contractor.
  • Does a high score mean I should hire them?It means their public record looks like a match for the settings you chose. Before hiring, get references, confirm insurance and licensing, and agree on scope and price in writing.
