Las Cruces building permit search: how to look up permits in Las Cruces, NM

To look up permits on a Las Cruces, New Mexico address, use the City's Accela Citizen Access portal. Its Building search loads without logging in and searches by Site Address, Contractor License Information, Parcel Number, Record Information (record number and type) and Contact Information (checked 24 October 2026). The City's Permits, Licenses, and Registrations page names the same portal for "Checking status of your project- building permits" and inspection requests. The portal's data also feeds the City's GIS permit layer, the source of our 13,509 Las Cruces permits from October 2024 to September 2026.

How to look up the permits on a Las Cruces address

  1. Open Accela Citizen Access. The Building tab opens on "Search for Records".
  2. Pick Search by Address from the drop-down, enter the street number and name, and run the search.
  3. Open each record. Electrical, plumbing, mechanical, re-roof and solar work are separate records from the building permit.
  4. Read the record status and the inspection list. For a new home, addition or alteration, look for the certificate of occupancy or completion.
  5. To check a contractor's history, choose Search by Licensed Professional Information and enter the license number from your contract.

What the statuses mean

Each record in Accela Citizen Access carries its own status. The City's GIS permit layer, which our pages use, carries none, so we show no finished share. Only building permits (new homes, additions, alterations) get a certificate of occupancy or completion in the public data, and we use its date as the final:

Building permits issued Oct 2024–Sep 2025 Usual days, issue to certificate Middle half (days)
All building permits with a certificate (716) 176 148–229
New homes (580 with a certificate) 172 148–209
Other building work 234 111–360

Electrical, plumbing, mechanical, roofing and solar permits have no certificate, so they have no time to final here. How long does a permit take? has the detail.

When the record is not online

File an Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) request with the City Clerk, through the portal at lascrucesnm.govqa.us, by mail to P.O. Box 20000, Las Cruces, NM 88004, or by fax to 575-541-2117. A written request "must contain the name, address and telephone number of the person making the request". The City must permit inspection "no later than fifteen (15) calendar days" after receiving it; "There is no fee for records produced electronically", and paper copies are $1.00 a page up to 8.5 by 11 inches (Public Records Request, read 24 October 2026). The Clerk's office is at (575) 541-2112.

74% of the 13,509 permits were for homes. The permit statistics page has the file by year and month, and browse permits lists the rows without owners or street addresses. To check a contractor's New Mexico license, see How to check a contractor's license in New Mexico.

What this does not tell you

The GIS layer has no status and no ZIP code, so we show no finished share and no ZIP pages. Its value is the project valuation on the permit; electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits carry none. We have not matched contractor names to New Mexico license records, so we count permits per firm and don't rate or rank them. Unincorporated Doña Ana County is permitted by the county and is not in the file.

How we know this

The search options are from the City of Las Cruces Accela Citizen Access Building search page, the portal description from the City's Permits, Licenses, and Registrations page, and the request rules from the City Clerk's Public Records Request page, all read 24 October 2026. Our counts are the City's GIS BuildingPermits and certificate of occupancy layers (Accela feed), read 20 October 2026: permits issued October 2024 to September 2026.

Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 20, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.
