Centennial building permit search: the Self-Service Portal, statuses and records

To look up a permit in the City of Centennial, Colorado, use the City's Self-Service Portal, a Tyler EnerGov site. The City's Online Permits page lists it as the Building Permit Search: "Are you looking for a specific permit? View the Self-Service Portal." Its records page calls it the "Building and Planning Records search" (read 24 October 2026). In our file, the City issued 13,474 building, trade, fence and sign permits from October 2024 to September 2026.

Which addresses this covers

The City permits work inside its own limits only. Homes with a Centennial mailing address in unincorporated Arapahoe County, and Greenwood Village, Littleton, Englewood, Lone Tree and Aurora, get their permits elsewhere, so search the right office first.

Tool Search by What it shows
Self-Service Portal Address, parcel number or permit number (see below) Each permit and its status; an account is needed to apply
EPL_Permit (City GIS) Any field Permit type, work class, status, issue, finaled and expiration dates, valuation, address; our source
Our Centennial pages Kind of work, ZIP code Counts, finished share and days to final

How to look up the permits on a Centennial address

  1. Open the Self-Service Portal. The page needs scripts to run, so use a normal browser.
  2. Search by the street address, the parcel number or the permit number. The City's how-to-apply guide says the portal's location search takes "an address, parcel number, or partial address or parcel number".
  3. Open each permit on the property. A furnace, water heater or roof is its own permit, separate from a remodel.
  4. Read the status (table below) and the finaled date.
  5. You only need to log in or register to apply; the guide says the My History tab "displays only for registered users".

What the statuses mean

The City's file uses Complete, Issued, In Review, Expired and Void, and records a finaled date.

Status in the City file What it means How we count it
Complete (or any finaled date) Final inspection passed Finished
Issued, In Review Open, or not yet issued Open
Expired, Plan Approval Expired Lapsed before a final Expired
Void, Denied, Withdrawn Never went ahead Left out

Of the permits issued October 2024 to September 2025, 82.6% had finished, 16.2% had expired and 1.2% were still open by our 20 October 2026 snapshot. The share that expired is highest for HVAC (27.2%) and plumbing (22.0%) in the same group, so an old furnace or water-heater permit that never got a final is common here and worth closing before you sell.

When the record is not online

The City's Request Public Records page says to search the portal first: "If you cannot locate the record in our database, then submit the online request and we will research it for you." You get a confirmation email and the answer by email; the page cites C.R.S. 24-72-203 for three working days to search, extendable by seven, and says "Fees may apply". Records can be viewed at the Centennial Civic Center, 13133 E. Arapahoe Rd., from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; the phone is 303-325-8000 (read 24 October 2026).

What our Centennial pages add

The Centennial page adds the City's permits up. Counts are permits issued October 2024 to September 2026; finished share and days are for permits issued October 2024 to September 2025.

Kind of work Permits (Oct 2024–Sep 2026) Finished (Oct 2024–Sep 2025 permits) Usual days to final
Remodels and repairs 3,071 84.8% 59
Roofing 2,544 88.0% 37
Plumbing 2,214 77.8% 8
HVAC 1,992 72.5% 21
Electrical 1,216 78.4% 18
Solar 396 91.6% 62
New homes 295 89.5% 224

Roofing permits fell 48% from the first year of the window to the second (1,672 to 872); re-roofs follow hailstorms, so roofing counts swing from year to year. ZIP code 80122 had the most permits, 3,744 of 13,474, October 2024 to September 2026. The permit statistics page has year and month counts, how long permits take has the days by kind, permits by ZIP code splits them by area and browse permits lists the rows. Fences are on fence permits and sheds and garages on accessory permits. To check a contractor, see How to check a contractor's license in Colorado.

What this does not tell you

The City's published table names no contractor, so we cannot say who did the work. The value is the valuation declared on the permit, and many over-the-counter home permits list none. Right-of-way, temporary use and development permits are left out.

How we know this

The portal link and records process are quoted from the City of Centennial's Online Permits and Request Public Records pages and its how-to-apply guide, read 24 October 2026. Our counts are the City's EPL_Permit table, read 20 October 2026: permits issued October 2024 to September 2026 inside city limits, without right-of-way, temporary use and development permits.

Numbers come from public permit records in 57 cities, data through October 20, 2026. Nobody paid to be on this page and nobody can.

Questions

  • How do I find out if a permit was pulled on my house in Centennial?

Open the City of Centennial's Self-Service Portal, the EnerGov site the City links as its Building Permit Search, and look the property up by address or by the permit number on your paperwork. If the record is not there, the City asks you to send an online public records request and it will research it.

  • Does a Centennial mailing address mean the City of Centennial issued my permit?

Not always. Some homes with a Centennial mailing address are in unincorporated Arapahoe County, and Greenwood Village, Littleton, Lone Tree and Aurora issue their own permits. Only addresses inside the city limits are in the City's portal and in our 13,474 permits from October 2024 to September 2026.

  • How long does a Centennial permit take to final?

For permits issued October 2024 to September 2025, the usual one reached a final in 36 days. Plumbing took 8 days, roofing 37, remodels and repairs 59 and new homes 224.

  • What does Expired mean on a Centennial permit?

The permit lapsed before the work was finaled. Of the permits the City issued October 2024 to September 2025, 16.2% had expired by our 20 October 2026 snapshot; HVAC was highest at 27.2%.

  • Can I look up Centennial permits by contractor?

The City's pages do not describe a contractor search, and its published permit table has no contractor column, so we do not list firms for Centennial. Ask your contractor for the permit number and search that.
